No, not nervous. I don't like it when you drive at 30mph on the nail, and they insist on hanging onto your rear bumper....

You can't even drop it a cog and boot it to get some distance in!

It did when I started driving a few months ago, but I figure that as long as I follow the rules of the road and my car is up to spec I should be okay and nothing to worry about.

I got nervous when someone ran into the back of me at some red traffic lights as they were trying to get out of the way of a police car with its sirens going.

I'm not nervous at all when the police are behind me.... It's when they overtake and put the blue lights on that i get worried :hihi:

Honestly, I look to see who is driving, is it a lovely hunk in uniform? It never is, so I just carry on, disappointed ;)

I always have a giggle when i'm driving behind a police car, especially the traffic one's coz they have cameras at the back. I laugh and pull funny faces - would love to see the video tape later .... :heyhey:

ok, juvenille I know, but it's a laugh all the same

I wouldnt say I get nervous as such, but I do get wary, as 9 times out of 10, If I see a cop car behind me, he next thing I see is the blue light come one and get asked to pull over :(

Better to just indicate and pull over (slow down and let them pass) *before* they start flashing their lights ... just to confuse them.

I live close to moss way - but still get nervous when a cop car is behind me.

I keep checking in my mirror to see if they are still there. I keep the other eye on the speedo to make sure I don;t go over 30. I end up spending less time looking where I'm actually going :o

My driving feels a bit erratic, which makes me feel even more nervous. so relieved when they sod off!

I get really nervous but only because I'm the most pulled over person I know. I drive an renault clio (green) am a 26 year old female that has never drunk and driven in my life and I have been pulled over for NO GOOD REASON 5 times in the last 3 years. The last time i was breathalised (clear), asked what I did for a living (RE teacher) and the policeman did that sucky teeth shaky head thing when I said i didnt have my documents with me. Another time I was pulled over for not indicating to go straight over a round-a-bout at 3am in the morning (when i was driving alone) when the left turning was a B&Q warehouse.

All this on top of the fact that when my car was broken into at christmas and all my xmas presents stolen not one policeman came round to take my statement despite being promised 4 times that they would.

Makes me very angry. If the fairy could get on a soap box - this would be it.

I usually get a little paranoid.

"Is my rear number plate still there, or has some dork ripped it off in Sainsbury's car park?

Are my brake lights still working?

Are my kids in the back seats wanted for anything? (only joking lads)

If possible, after a fair distance, I indicate and turn off.

Anybody ever noticed how you tend to drive in a lower gear with the police on tow? It saves on touching the brakes every few minutes.

i'm sure they tease as well.
On the motorway, everyone slows to 70, and starts showing a bit of lane discipline. Police car passes at 75, pulls in slows down.
I catch up, pull out overtake at 70, police car speeds up, I now can't pull back in.... they stay there for a bit, then slow down again. just being awkward.
Yeah, it makes me a little nervous.

Presumably it's the whiff of absinthe that follows you everywhere?

I have voted "No" as I have nothing to worry about.

The police have a crap job to do and if I were pulled over, I would understand this to be part of their job.
Reasons for anyone to worry, would be from being insecure to being guilty of something.

It certainly makes me keep a very close eye on the speedo to ensure I'm not drifting over the limit. This is often ironically followed up by the police driver getting impatient and overtaking above the speed limit at the first opportunity!

I got rid of my silly speeding years a decade ago, and now I am never nervous any longer when I see police behind me when I'm driving my car. And I would never stick to 30mph exactly because they would think I were driving like I had something to hide, like drink driving [something which I abhore]. The best way is to drive safely and smoothly as if you were doing your advanced driving test, a style of driving which is much more satisfying than pretending you are on a race track, although it requires a degree of maturity which most men don't get until their late 20s and at least decade of driving.

I have been back on my motorbike for 1 month now and I can't say that I have had much of a problem with police behind me so far, but I have generally been riding extremely safely [apart from a 2-up wheele on psalter lane, and a bit of traffic light grand prix behaviour!] as I get used to it again, so I might report back when I have had the experience.

Yeah, it makes me a little nervous.

And have you also noticed the tendency of the police to sometimes drive along at 60-65mph. A stack of cars then tag along behind them, all fearful of overtaking.

I overtook a convoy on the M1 once, refusing to dawdle along in the slow lane. After overtaking the lead police car, indicated, and pulled back into the slow lane. The cop car promptly put on his blue light and pulled me over. All the following cars then put their foot down and sped off!

Turned out my indicator light was faulty! But, I wouldn't have known without the nice policeman informing me. Soon got it fixed.

I don't get nervous at all...I am one of those like Redrobbo that 'have' and 'would again' overtake a police car!

In all of my driving experience I have only been stopped once by the police for overshooting the lights whilst lighting a fag...

:o !

After the 'lecture' he let me go with a caution!!

;)

If anything does make me nervous on the road it is huge lorries....I have a real phobia about big lorries ever since I watched 'Duel'.....I'd NEVER upset a lorry driver!!

I have white knuckles holding the steering wheel overtaking lorries in the rain.....

Lorries, yeah... they are the WORST!!

I recently had a single 120-mile journey wherein I had THREE near-misses because of ignorant or unobservant lorry drivers.

One decided to pull out while I was in the middle of overtaking - luckily the outside lane was free for me to move into or I'd have been screwed.

Another pulled out into my lane without indicating when I was approaching at a good 15mph faster than them and was literally 10 yards from their rear end, with only just enough time to slow down and avoid hitting them.

A third entered a roundabout at high speed ahead of me (while I was already on it) and I had to slam my brakes on to avoid a crash.

I arrived at my destination more than a little bit nervous!!

Saw a great truck yesterday that had the legend "Bri's Mistress" emblazoned on the mud flaps. I'm not sure is this meant that Bri has unnatural extramarital relations with his HGV - which is a tad worrying unless he carries a full range of cleaning products - or that his last lover ended up being run over.

But it's a useful thing to have a police car behind one, I think. It saves wasting time and attention checking the speedo, because as long as you're not pulling away from the officer it means you haven't got to 160mph yet. And as 159mph is no longer a prosecutable offence (prior precedent) hey diddly dee. One can concentrate on looking where one is going.

It drives me nuts when police officers drive at 20-25mph in a 30, 30 in a 40 and 60 on the motorway, I must admit though I have a feeling of pure adrenaline rush through my bloodstream when I go past at the posted speed limit and I can picture all the gutless wonders who daren't do it, thinking "He must be mad"...

I was however coming back from my sisters on the A38, saturday night when I saw a police officer doing (What I thought to be) 70 so I slowed down a bit from 90 to then witness him fly off at well over a ton, the van behind him was also hitting roughly the same speed, so I thought, why the hell not (Thinking at all times he's only sped off so he could hide in a lay by and wait for me), but he didn't...:hihi:

If I'm not in a hurry, I love it when I've got a cop car up me jacksy. I suddenly start driving as though I'm doing my driving test. I'll go absolutely the speed limit, or just below, give way to everyone, be really cautious at junctions, drive a car door's distance away from parked cars, everything by the book. It's a good little game to see if you could still pass your test. They'll usually get bored after a couple of minutes and go away but I was once pulled over after doing this and the reason was "You were driving very cautiously sir, have you been drinking?" I'm teetotal and I really layed into this copper, took his badge number and said I was gonna report him and how outrageous I thought it was to be pulled over for driving too well.

:hihi: Oh yeah, whoops...

Well ya see I was searching for "Renault clio" and this took my interest (Dunno why) and before you know it, there I am thinking I'm just browsing the forum, so I post!!

May I just ask one question? Does it really matter when it's from, I read it, found it interesting and wanted to put my 2 pence worth in, does this offend anyone, is it any less relevant now than it was 3yrs ago or are you just nit picking because you have nothing else to say....

I resurrected it because I felt like it, there, done...:hihi:

Next time a copper is behind me I'm gonna jump on the brakes, let em smash into me (cue whiplash claim! ;) ) and say that a dog ran out infront of me. :)

Then you'd get into trouble as you're not allowed to do an emergency stop for a dog!

Even if I'm not doing anything wrong (law abiding as I am, this is usually the case :hihi: ) I do still feel uncomfortable when there's a police car behind me. It fuels my natural paranoia and I start thinking I am doing something wrong anyway, otherwise why are they following me?

No mate, it isn't a problem, I just wonder why you didn't start your own thread.

As for coppers up me A**. I get it all the time but I think I cheese them off more by sticking rigidly to the speed limit of the road and its usually me that is slowing the traffic down then to the point that they pass me and I then catch them up. I tend to speed up or slow down in accordance with them. I know it cheeses them off but as I am fully legal, they can hardly complain about me setting a speed limit on a road when I am behind them unless they have their lights flashing.

Yeah as I quite often go out and don't drink so I can drive so I'm driving late at night. Although I've not drunk I don't want the inconvenience of showing my papers at a station... better things to be doing.

I've only ever been pulled over once, that was when I was a teen/early twenties and we'd been - ahem - down lover's lane. Didn't spot the police car until afterwards and wondered if they'd been watching us!

I put no, having a police car behind me doesn't bother me one bit because i make sure that my car is as it should be.

What does bother me is when i look in my mirror and see some pratt behind me on a mobile phone, bad enough when they are in front of you but at least then you can fall-back just in case anything happens.

I voted, I dont know why but I always feel guilty or paranoid, my car is always as it should be etc, law abiding citizen (that came with age)! lol. Maybe its some subconcious thing from my younger days, when I could have, occassionally, been very near the edge of the law. (Not that Im proud of it, of course)
