My windows media player has stopped working and i've got a message when i try to open it saying that 'an internal application error occurred'. What might have caused it and what can i do about it? Tried to download wmp 10 but after installing got same message again. If you have an answer can you please keep it very simple please.

Just an idea....did you completely uninstall the old version of WMP before installing the new one?

no but it looks like it might have disappeared anyway. Do you know what might be causing it?

There may be some residual Registry settings messing you about.

Try uninstalling and then using something like Crap Cleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/
to clean up any redundant settings and then reinstalling again afterwards.

(Make sure that you back up any important stuff first)

Thanks for the suggestion. Anybody else got any ideas about what I could do?

What operating system are you running? On one computer in our house, the OS is Windows 98. I know, I know, but what the heck, it works great.

Windows 98 doesn't support the newer versions of Windows media player. That's what my kids tell me, anyway. They're probably right. Could be this is your problem as well. Good luck.

Bonus with 98, using WMP you don't have the movie tool bars when in full screen, a VERY annoying feature of XP.

I don't have any toolbars on my WMP10 - although I use mplayer wherever possible ;) Have you tried View > Menu Bar Options > Autohide Menu Bar ?

Thanks Captain_Scarlet, but according to the kids, our old Windows 98 computer has WMP 10, and there's still things it won't play.

I'm stumped now!
