Okay, after trawling through jobs local I stumbled across my literally local (as in a stones throw away) pub wanting bar staff. I applied even though I've only had volunteer jobs in the past and he's just rang to arrange an interview for tomorrow at 6pm!
Cept, because I've only ever been interviewed once before (for Tesco's and it was a group interview) I need help on the sort of questions they are likely to ask? :help: It would really help because I get so nervous about these things!
Any help appreciated! xxx
First thing is, relax and just be yourself. Also, think of some questions you want to ask - eg: will you be doing fixed shifts, is there a rota, will you be covering for absent colleagues, what training will he be able to give you etc.
If you've not worked in a pub before, think about all the things you have done which will be an asset - for example, have you handled money before (either as an employee, voluntary work, clubs etc).
Do you have any customer service experience? Working in a pub you will need to deal with people in a polite and curteous manner, have you dealt with people before? How do you handle difficult people?
Have you been into the pub before, do you know how they run things?
If you've not much previous experience, then you'll need to demonstrate your personality and also your willingness to learn.
Good luck!
Ditto Hels' post.
They'll probably want to see how cool you can be under pressure too. ;)
They'll want to know you are the sort of person who can get on with anybody, but knows where to draw the line. Confidence is important in a role like this, so just take it easy and go down there for a bit of interview practice - if you put too much pressure on yourself, it's easy to talk yourself out of the job.
It will help your confidence to sit down and make a list of the attributes you think their existing staff have (go in for a drink), and decide how your personality reflects this. In business it's referred to as 'corporate culture', but it works on any level
They may ask what sort of stuff you're into. Sociable stuff is usually what they're after. Team games are a boon. Do they have a Sunday league team? Football, darts, quiz nights? (Have you used a microphone before?)
Assess them, and tell them how they can't live without you :D

Just be honet, be yourself and dont waffle. Dont say you can do things when you know you can't this will come back and bite you. Ask what training they can offer you and that you are willing to do any training that they are prepard to send you on.

Thanks guys! I managed to read your replies before I went for the interview which happened ohh...about two hours ago. It was very chilled, informal and relaxed. He basically just told me what sort of hours I'll be doing...in other words he gave me the job!! :D So happy! xxx

Yay! Well done SilverMagic!
Hopefully, now that you've done one interview and seen how easy they can be, you won't get so nervous in future when you have one.

The pub is literally a stones throw from my house as well - talk about easy! xxx
Ded handy! Make sure you don't upset any customers though.
You don't want to hear 'I know where you live' :suspect: ;)
