She's beautiful! I've got one just like her under my apple tree at the moment.

Her web is so impressive- it's between the tree and a bush in the garden and it's so sturdy that I can actually move the bush by pulling on the guy lines of the web.

it is giant spider season right now, the one in your garden is quite small but a fair size for an outside dweller. our house in built on former woodland and at this time of we get spiders that are 3 times the size of yours with very long legs (they are not daddy longlegs though) running around indoors, and my, are they fast runners. we evicted 2 before we went away and on our return we had to catch 3 more. they arrive at a certain period in the year then disappear just as suddenly, so we dont have to tolerate them for long. there are thousands of tiny black ones in the garden that seem to be there all year round. people with manicured lawns, decking and patios miss out on all the fun these creatures can give us.. enjoy!

Yes I have seen these huge critters *shudder* and I swear some of them actually jump. I evicted one just yesterday because as much as I find them fascinating, when its over my bed looking down at me with its 20 million eyes (ok slight exaggeration there) then it's time for them to go. What I don't understand (because I have never yet knowing killed a spider) is the people who take great care to capture them and then without a thought launch them out of the bedroom window into oblivion????

I stand corrected and should have known that...just glad we don't do the same thing, I'd be a very skinny spider...LOL
