Does Attercliffe still exist :?: I haven't been to Sheffield in years, but when I did live there Attercliffe was seriously in danger of being seriously run down.

Attercliffe does still exist, all be it probably not as you remember it. There are a few shops and pubs still standing were the Old Banners was.

Going further towards Tinsley (M1) this area has been totally redeveloped and consists of new call centres, offices, hotels, pubs, Centertainment (Cinemas, Bowling, Night Clubs, Resturants) Sheffield Arena, New Police Station, Don Valley Stadium, New Centre for Sport (Being built), New National Ice Arena (Being Built) and of course Meadowhall.

My tip for the future, it wont be long until this redevelopment does away with all of the old Attercliffe and extends right to the Wicker.

except for the top common its pretty much dead. You get lots of knockin shops, wife swapping clubs and a few second hand shops. There's still a few pubs left station,kings head , greyhound and a couple on worksop road. The best thing about it now is the curry houses

I remember Banners. They were on the bottom of the hill and sold everything. Wow, looks like Sheffield is looking up and getting better everyday. I also have fond memories of Firth Park and Tinsley. In fact I still have relatives in both areas. :P

basically its a brothel, but would generally be disguised as a sauna

Attercliff is the seedy soho of sheffield. . . every area has one im sure. . . theres the wive swapping club and sauna, tatoo and pet shops and er some other stuff too. . like don valey, the ice rink and the areana . . what a contrast. . . sports and leisure, slap bang next door to brothels, gang bang clubs, kebabs shops, pubs. . .

More seriously qazi, people do live there; on Staniforth Road, the rest of Darnall etc...

While it might not be everyones cup of tea I think that it's going to develop into quite an eclectic edgy funky sort of area when some more housing / flats go in around the canal.

LOL its the people of Darnall that use Attercliffe :) I think the houses on Staniforth Road are far enough away not to be affected. Also Attercliffe has that reputation for ages, so they knew that when they moved in.

Also as long as things aren't happening in the street, it doesn't bother me. I like the idea of all the porn/adult shops being in the same place. It means they aren't in residential areas.

But seriously thou the 2nd hand shops are good, as well as Hitchens, so its not too bad.

There is those 2 leather shops that seem to have been there forever as well.

Attercliffe & Darnell l spent my misspent youth there and look where lts landed me,--ln N.Zealand. however l still have great memories of the place.

Nothing wrong with the place, at least it's not dull

They changed the spelling to Darnall since you left too ;) You probably wouldn't recognise the place, especially around Staniforth Road.

Hey ppl do live down there I myslef live there and as living goes its ok. theres a new cul-de-sack been built around the back of the Attercliffe Tram stop and all the flats above the shops are being renevated and there huge!

I like the way the road signs to Sheffield city centre from Meadowhall direct you AWAY from going down Attercliffe Road and over to Brightside Lane. It seems an obvious attempt to prevent visitors to Sheffield from having to go down here even though it will be quicker!

It does have probably the best shop in Sheffield for models... as in Hornby trains, Scalextric and the like, not the other 'models' that frequent many of the establishments around there... You can spot these pretty easily though, they're not exactly hidden away!
