If you fall into this category then you should check out AVG Antivirus 6.0 Free Edition. Additionally, it's relatively small, light on resources, has regular automatic updates and handles email scanning. This is cute. TinyResMeter is an itsy-bitsy system monitor. Unlike many other monitors, it doesn't consume a lot of CPU utilization in order to tell you your CPU utilization. I'm not a great fan of outliners - my brain doesn't work that way. Some folks however, swear by them and if that includes you, then you should check out Keynote, an Open Source freeware program that has a dedicated band of followers. What do you do with it? Apache HTTPD is a web server written in portable C (when people say "Apache", they usually mean Apache HTTPD.) It mostly serves static content by itself, but there are many add-on modules (some of which come with Apache itself) that let it modify the content and also serve dynamic content written in Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, or other languages.

For example, a Java application server usually hosts EJBs as well as servlets and JSPs, and it usually has fancy tools for deploying and configuring applications that go way beyond what Apache or Tomcat have.

Vim is THE best text editor ever invented, syntax highlighting, Regex search/replace, and soooo configurable. Plus, its almost guarananteed that 99% of UNIX boxed have Vim/Vi installed. Has to be my most used program.
