Sad to see leaving the departure lounge Long John Baldry. Died in Vancouver 21st July. Although he only had two top 40 discs, 'Let The Herataches Begin', a song that topped the charts and he sang at the 1968 Royal Variety Performance, and a tune called 'Mexico' that coincided with the Olympic Games there in 1968, he was a force in the British R'n'B scene. He worked with future artistes such as Elton John and Rod Stewart to give us his own brand of pop blues. He was a big fan of Muddy Waters and Big Bill Broonzy, Memphis Slim and Champion Jack Dupree. He played at the Marquee along side Mick Jagger, Paul Jones, Alexis Corner and Cyril Davis. Why Long John? when he was born he was 2 ft long, and grew to a height of 6ft 7ins.

Also farewell to Eugene Record, writer and member of smooth soul ballad singers The Chi=Lites.
