View Full Version : Typoos or bad spelling? Chicago 25-07-2005, 03:06 Are people in such a hurry these days that the do not correct their typos or they just bad at spelling? :D peterdo 25-07-2005, 03:19 Probably a combination of both, I'm lousy at spelling and typing. LellyBee 25-07-2005, 05:15 Originally posted by Chicago Are people in such a hurry these days that the do not correct their typos or they just bad at spelling? :D Were you hoping that someone would pick you up on that one? Nice one LOL ;) Chicago 25-07-2005, 05:45 Good of you to notice! :D Swan_Vesta 25-07-2005, 06:08 Possibly, but I suspect that quite a lot of it is an inability to spell. Look at all of this text speak which is worryingly prevalent even in an environment such as this forum where we are not limited by the confines of message length, we will still get someone who will insist on writing "Wot u on M8?" or some such nonsense. I suspect in most cases this masks peoples poor grammar and spelling. I don't profess to be the worlds greatest speller but I do have a knack of stringing a sentence together that other people can read without scratching their heads silently questioning what the hell I'm trying to say. Recently I have seen some of the worst spelling written in a childlike scrawl ....... Where? I hear you ask........ On an official purchase order from a government agency. Very, very worrying. craig266 25-07-2005, 08:55 shouldn't the heading be "typoos or bad speeling" ??? Splodge_CRB 25-07-2005, 09:09 You only get an oo with typoo........ Berberis 25-07-2005, 09:24 Originally posted by craig266 shouldn't the heading be "typoos or bad speeling" ??? Maybe with the sub heading ... "Dyslexia Rules K.O" I filter my messages by first pasting them into MS Word to see what I’ve spelt wrong. Although I do regularly spell Should – “Shoudl”, but that’s more to do with using a laptop keyboard I think. TimmyR 25-07-2005, 10:03 Originally posted by serapis Maybe with the sub heading ... What I've spelt wrong -> those words which I have spelt incorrectly:D Thats a grammar error so wouldn't come up in word. Probably. Pedants rule OK! I have to admit that I always put the word their when I mean there and vice versa, its a mental block I think. I also miss out the word "not" from sentences. This can have a detrimental effect on your life! Tony 25-07-2005, 10:24 Originally posted by serapis Maybe with the sub heading ... My brain goes faster than my fingers... or is it the other way around :suspect: SO! Do what I do, and download a fab little IE spellchecker from www.iespell.com. Perfekt spolling iz onli a rite clik awaa. redrobbo 25-07-2005, 10:29 Originally posted by tim_rutter I also miss out the word "not" from sentences. This can have a detrimental effect on your life! Typo alert! That last sentence should have read - "This can not have a detrimental effect on your life!":hihi: robbie 25-07-2005, 18:27 I'm slightly dyslexic and very lazy. I do so,metimes but if I'm drunk you have no chance:D vidster 25-07-2005, 18:33 I use Spellbound (http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/). It is a spell checker that works with Firefox :) dirtybristow 25-07-2005, 18:45 It's the apostrophes I feel sorry for. So many of them are made to sit in places where they clearly look out of place and uncomfortable. You can almost hear the full-stops laughing at them: They hardly ever end up where they don't belong do they? Yodameister 25-07-2005, 19:12 Any grammatical or spelling mistakes I make are typos that I don't check. On the other hand, I am often more judgmental about other people's posts, and will asume they just can't spell, or write gramatically. willman 25-07-2005, 19:38 i can spell perfectly just don't have time to make sure my fingers hit the right keys.sorry. redrobbo 25-07-2005, 21:07 Originally posted by Yodameister Any grammatical or spelling mistakes I make are typos that I don't check. Sadly they are a dying breed :( My favourite post suffering from staff shortages in the punctuation dept. was: loft ladder wanted anyone moving to a bungalow Now punctuate that and see what you get ;) LordChaverly 25-07-2005, 21:26 Loft ladder wanted. Anyone moving to a bungalow? Loft ladder wanted anyone? Moving to a bungalow. Loft ladder wanted, anyone moving? To a bungalow?? Loft ladder. Wanted anyone? Moving to a bungalow. Loft. Ladder wanted. Anyone moving to a bungalow? Loft. Ladder wanted anyone? Moving to a bungalow. vidster 25-07-2005, 21:35 So should forum members like me (who didn't do too well with grammer at school), be banned from the forum? :loopy: PS. I don't care if i've made mistakes in this post :? melthebell 25-07-2005, 21:42 i do typhoos all the toon i type too fast, and press enter before ive seen it :P Strix 25-07-2005, 21:54 Originally posted by vidster So should forum members like me (who didn't do too well with grammer at school), be banned from the forum? :loopy: PS. I don't care if i've made mistakes in this post :? Well there is a difference between your posts and some of the unpunctuated cross text speak/manor grammar that spews forth from some fingers in Sheffield, Vidster ;) Some posts are just plain painful to read, but I actually like the style of some of our regulars. Am I allowed to mention Litha here? I couldn't care less about her punctuation, spelling and grammar coz there's enough there to just add character to her posts  When she gets going on a topic she's passionate about, I imagine her as a distant relative of the 'little old lady' in Chorlton and the Wheelies, with purple sparks flying about :hihi: vidster 25-07-2005, 22:00 Originally posted by Strix some of the unpunctuated cross text speak/manor grammar that spews forth from some fingers in Sheffield, Vidster ;) I hope you have an air raid shelter Strix, I sense a ton of bricks coming your way :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: Strix 25-07-2005, 22:11 It was getting a little dull round here :D Cyclone 13-09-2006, 10:09 I've read about three posts this morning where 'what' is written 'wot'. Is it so very difficult to spell, there are only four letters in it. I've resisted correcting anyone in the post (following the thread about spelling recently), but it's bloody annoying to see 'wot should i do about it', it just looks nasty and like the person just can't be bothered to type the one extra letter. PS - Apparently this is better tacked onto the end of a thread that died 14 months ago, rather than a new thread with my (rather amusing I think) title of "What is it about what?" Hecate 13-09-2006, 10:13 It's annoying, but not quite as irritating as using 'u' for 'you'. Surely, when you're typing, your fingers automatically go to the correct letters for such frequently used words? Typing 'wot' and 'u' would slow my typing down. |
