Was wondering what the procedure is like to adopt a cat from Sheffield RSPCA near Attercliffe.

Are there lots to choose from/price...e.t.c

Thanks

I adopted from the old one a few years ago.

Even after giving them details of our home life (no kids, out all day at work) and a home visit to assess our house they gave us a dog which had been locked indoors in a flat all day and was highly strung. It chased anything and we eventually had to put it down after it went for a neighbours child.

They just seemed under a lot of pressure to house their animals which I understand but coming home each night to total distruction wasn't pleasant.

Hi...we adopted our first cat from the RSPCA in Rotherham...but this was 20yrs ago....she was beautiful...but had hundreds of fleas!!! LOL..not so funny then let me tell you...lol....but they had loads to choose from...I think she cost us about £6 but like I said it was many years ago now...she lived to be 16yrs old bless her...but it really tugs at your heart strings when you see them all there...but hope you find one..or two...or three....it really is hard not to bring more than 1 back with you...I've also had one or two from pet rescue centres over the yrs as well....one is a little black and white cat..shes 6 now...but her so called owners took her to the centre cos they said she was the last of the litter and no one wanted her cos she was ugly lookin and if the centre didnt take her..they were gonna dump her somewhere...some lovely people around arent there...but as soon as I saw her..i fell in love with her..and shes made the most lovin affectionate sweet cat anyone cud wish for...i also took one which was semi wild from a local pet shop...which the shop assistant told me i wud never tame...within 2 hours of me bringing her into our home..she was comin out from under our table to us...meowin for food....anyhow...enough about my lovely little cats...and I hope you find a lovely cat from wherever you decide...good luck...

I adopted a cat a couple of years ago. I saw him on the RSPCA Sheffield website. At the time they were in the process of building their new premises so I went round to his 'foster parents' to look at him. If you want then to adopt, someone from the RSPCA comes round to your house and they ask various questions to make sure you are suitable. The cost was £50 then which included microchipping, neutering and vaccinating. He is a lovely cat.

we got our two kitties from them in May. We went and looked around to start with, and put our names down as being interested in two older cats, they arranged to do a homecheck within a week and the cats were reserved pending it. Someone came out did the check and ok'd us. Unfortunately the cats we originally were interested in became ill and were pts, but the staff were fab and rang and emailed with other sugestions when we went back a week later and saw two other kittens who were on their own they did all the introductions and made sure they had all their checks/injections and in about 2/3 weeks they were at home with us. The youngest of the two cats was £75 and the oldest £50/55. They had been microchipped and fully vaccinated. All in all we were very pleased with everything concerned, and they have been more than helpful since when we have rung with any queries. They rang a week or two later as well to check everything was ok, and the vet they use (PEak Vets) are just fab too.

we adopted our 8 year old cat from them, last year, so they were inbetween premises. We had a home check and lots of really helpful advice and reassurance. From memory we paid £65ish ??

We've been to the new premises a couple of times recently to look for another cat - the ones that we liked / were suitable for our other pets unfortunately for us had already been reserved (but obviously fortunate for them).

Go have a look, there is plenty of parking and its quite a nice centre - have you looked online too, they are really good at updating the site: RSPCA (http://rspcasheffield.homeip.net/cgi-bin/createlist.py?species=Cat&sex=&preferedage=)

Only on very few and I mean very few occations does the RSPCA know the full history of an animal.

The people there can only comment on observations taken while the animal is in their care whether it be cat dog or budgie.

I suspect that you don't realise the commitment to keeping animals and would rather have an animal destroyed than your property.

How Sad.

The new Sheffield RSPCA centres is fantastic and they have some good staff and very good volunteers helping them.

I'm sure they have lots of different cats and dogs in for rehoming and will try their best to find something suitable to suit you and what is good for the pet also.

Just remember at the end of the day - any animal rehomed by ANY rescue centre - has already been dumped by some person. The rescue centre are just trying to pick up the pieces. The Sheffield RSPCA are better equipped than most now that they have their new centre and I hope they manage to get lots more funding to ensure that this place continues to grow.

I hope you find what you are looking for. I'm sure they will try to help you to do so.

Sorry to boycott the post but there are a few kits in the Sheffield dog pound just waiting for loving homes. Sorry again, no I haven't adopted a puss from RSPCA. They've always adopted me!! Good luck Sheff.
I can agree with Rainrescue however. I have always found the staff to be willing to help whenever I've called. Their website is good and up to date if you don't fancy the dog pound kits. PM me if you need further details about the kits love.

Hi...
We got our lovely dog from there 9 years ago... He had been there a year after benn treated shockinglly....
They where great at the RSPCA... However it wasnt until we got him home and to the vests we realised that in actuall fact the RSPCA hadnt actually been that good to him themselves!! His paws where terribly burt from the bleach that is used to clean the pens out, which had not been washed out!
He was under fed, and covered in scrates and deep wounds that had not been treated by the vet there!!

Maybe they have changed in the last 9 years... I hope so! But I would never go there again!

They have changed a lot MillieP - I can't say anything about the treatment your dog had all that time ago - but the kennels that they had to use were horrible - and in fact are still being used by the council - they aren't great for keeping weight on dogs, for stopping them being stressed - and sadly so many places use bleach for cleaning down.

I know that the Sheffield RSPCA use Safe4 which is the best disinfectant on the market - whereas the council kennels use bleach and some other horrid one - so it would be great if we could get them to use a product that suitable for the 21st Century.

Now that the RSPCA have the new fantastic centre - conditions are fantastic if any dog being in a kennel could be called fantastic - but if they have to be - then this is a doggy hotel. The vets are always called in if they are poorly and please remember, the work they have to do mopping up the thousands of cruelty cases that the general public just close their eyes to.

Its great to hear of a dog thats lived a miserable life in kennels for such a long time - eventually finding a loving home. Thanks for giving him a chance and a new home.

What utter tosh!!

How do you know his paws were burnt from the bleach (which they don't use)?
How do you know the pens were not cleaned out (public are not allowed into the indoor kennels)?
How do you know he was not seen or treated by the vet?

You must really get a warm sense of smug satisfaction that YOU saved this animal, when infact all you have really done is handed over ££'s and adopted a dog.

Why don't you try opening an animal shelter yourself instead of whinging about the hard work and commitment that others do on your behalf so that you can feel "good" when you brag about saving your dog.

Have a nice day
