Went to see the remake of Dark Water yesterday and was most disappointed - nowhere near as scary as the original and plot was lacking. Characters were a bit naff too - the kid was quite good as was the lawyer, but as for the rest of them....

Anyone else seen it ?

Glad I dont live in that apartment block - looks almost as nasty as bits of sheffield:P

I don't think that I can bring myself to watch it after seeing the US version of The Ring. The Japanese original was a very good example of modern horror and in each case where an Asian horror film has been remade by a western studio there has been no reason other than to flinch at the idea of watching the original with subtitles!

One thing that does amuse me though is the fact that some pretentious types have adopted the Dark Water/Ring question as a benchmark for sophistication...beware as they'll ask if you've seen either film and then probe to find out which version...as you can imagine, plumping for the Hollywood version will see you pegged as a shuffling clod!

have to agree with rtapper.only went to watch jennifer not even that wasn't worth the cash. Tim Roth character was superb but had limited interaction within the plot.give it a miss.

I haven't seen the remake, and don't really want to. The Japanese original was bad enough. It had some nice visual touches, but overall was extremely dull.

Dark water was not as good as I expected, although the sound people did do a fantastic job of making it suitably suspensful. I watched a making of documentary and the sound guy was saying that the sound of the migraine was actually the sound of his wife's first ultrasound. Also the sad ending made a change from the usual happy, everything turns out right ending.

I haven't watched the original although I am sure you are right that it is better, I have seen the original ring and ring two and they were a million times better then the American remake. Even though my boyfriend is dyslexic and I had to read the whole film to him, still more enjoyable.

Ive got to say that The remake was one of the worst films I have ever watched. There just seemed to be nothing to it. I saw it a t the pics a while back, a bloody waste of money im telling you.
