I was having a debate with a friend about some of the tram ticket collectors who are on the large side.

Basically, we were on the tram the other day, and it was extremely busy, and the ticket inspector was a bit on the big side. She was really struggling to get from one end of the tram to the other, and people were struggling to let her through, simply because of how much room she needed. Some people were actually getting pushed into the side by the ticket collector. Not on purpose though obviously.

Do you think that when the tram company employs people, they should take into account their size? Or maybe should they only put them on the less busier trams?

I will give my views a bit later on.

I saw in the news Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1210665/Fat-bus-drivers-ordered-lose-weight-breaking-seats.html) the other day that some bus company or other had asked the more 'self control' challenged drivers to lose weight as they were breaking the seats in the buses.

As for the tram conductors I would say that any factor that affects how well you can do your job should be taken into account. If your job is 'getting from one end of a crowded tram to the other efficiently with minimal disruption to the paying customers' then I would suggest that being significantly overweight prevents you from doing your job effectively.

I should think that putting on weight and working on public transport would go hand in hand for a lot of people, considering the amount of stress they have day to day. Maybe we should be looking at fare increases to pay for gym subscriptions for them.

When the trams are that crowded, even skinny people struggle to push their way through the groaning masses. Perhaps there should be a maximum amount of people allowed on a tram at one time instead (don't buses do this?) rather than weighing potential staff/passengers!

There should be more frequent trams at rush hour, imo.

I agree that they should be taken off at busy times.

I wonder if they realise themselves how much room they are taking up and the trouble they are causing other passengers? It's a shame really. As I doubt that it's their fault that they are that big, but it really is quite hazardous and awkward at busy times.

It's bad enough standing on the busy trams without a large person trying to squeeze their way through with their ticket machine.

Are you suggesting that they are being force-fed in some way?

I feel sorry for the fat conductors it must be very hard on their legs and feet.

Yes, yes I am.
