Hi,
I inadvertently (dropped a b*ll*ck) deleted all my photos from a DVD+R. As this is not a RW disc they are not physically removed are they, just hidden ?
I have tried PCInspector and Recover my Files no result. I have found other programmes that may or may not work.
I wondered if any of our experts have any solutions or suggestions.
Many Thanks.

I've used PhotoRescue (http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/) with very good results before now, but I suspect it might only work on memory cards - it has a free preview you can download to see what the full version would be able to recover, so you might want to have a try. At the other end of the scale I've used EasyRecovery (http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecoverydatarecovery/) to get back files on a hard drive - not sure if it does optical media, but again there is a trial version you can download to check... It ain't cheap though!

you cant delete files off a dvd / cd R?? its impossible.
obviously you can on a cd/dvd rw

are they hidden? then goto tools, folder options, view, show hidden files - in any open folder.

in nero i have accidently covered up a track with a second track so the files on the first track are inaccessable..........BUT theres a wikkid option to use in nero called save tracks, where you can tell it to save tracks off a disc as a file on your computer then reburn it as the proper files onto another disc.......thats saved my life a few times :P
it doesnt manage to save 2, 3 or 4 tracks tho, just the first

Didn't you used to get some sort of direct access drivers for cds? I want to say DTA but that's Direct Tape Access :) I'm sure that was the "in thing" when cdr first became popular, letting you just dump files onto the drive as and when you wanted. Presumably you could also delete them and it would update the fat... I'm not entirely sure this is what's happened here though - how did you delete the files matsalleh?

i have incd with an older copy of nero, that you can use on cds and use them like floppies, yes im sure you couldve deleted them that way

tbh id never use incd again, its highly unstable, i lost a couple of cds worth of files using that, once the filesystem goes you cant get the files back :(
ill stick to using nero to save up a good wack of files onto cdrw then when ive got enough for a session (eg:- 200mb / 250mb) ill burn permenently to cdr

Sorry about the delay I have been trying stuff.

Rich 951,
I am senile, stupid, hungover, tired one or more of these.I have added files loads of times, this time Nero showed me all the files on the DVD + 2 I was saving.Stupidly I deleted the ones already on disc.It was instantaneous no chance to cancel.

Melthebell,
I know you can't delete fron DVD+R thats why I thought it should be possible to get them back.
I sometimes use InCD,but photo files I always put straight to DVD so to have a working master :loopy: Nero save tracks has saved 2 files of 664MB and 640Mb as .nrg files (anyway to convert these ?) the size looks about right.

Both those recovery programmes will recover files from compact flash no problem, but not from DVD.
So I guess it is back to the searches.

Many thanks to you both for your input,
What's that saying about teaching old farts new tricks?

Mount them with Nero (.IMG files are virtual CD files, when created by Nero - I think....).

Or use Nero and select "Burn From Image" and locate the .IMG file & burn from that?

Details:

If you just double-click on the .nrg file, it should load it in nero and go straight to the burning options screen. Failing that, choose Burn Image off the Recorder option on the menu... That file format is just Nero's own image type.

[oops, sccsux just beat me to it :)]

Typical, I came back looking for this thread to tell you about how I was using isobuster for something else, and noticed it claimed to be very good at recovering cd/dvd tracks - guess you know that already! :)
