 Where's the best place to download KazaA Lite from the net? (Download.com doesn't have it)

Anyone else got KazaA Lite or can you recommend anything else without spyware in it?

Before I answer, I'm required to ask why you want Kazaa Lite?

Geoff

Any particular reason you can't just search Google for "kazaa lite" or are you trying to spark off a conversation about it?

Tony

Surely you can just download it from Kazaa?

Mind you. it was VERY ropey on my machine, so it only lasted a day. Took ages to get it out of the PC tho.

Google doesn't find it Geoff, I've tried that before. I do know the answer to the question, but because Sheffield Forum only allows people to use this site lawful purposes, I want Jon to answer my question before I give him the answer.

Kazaa Lite Forum: http://www.klboard.ath.cx/

To Jon -- K - Lite can't be found on download.com because it's not an official product (kinda 'illegal'), it's based on Kazaa but with much better features and lacking the spyware, as you know. Kazaa should be illegal, I find their product DISGUSTING and people need to be educated about what's really going on and what's being installed along with Kazaa.

To the above member -- what did you install, regular Kazaa? If so, that's foolish. Most people will tell you that Kazaa is choc full of spyware, and Kazaa is extrememly difficult to remove from your system unless you use either Spybot Search & Destroy (free) or Ad-aware (also free). I can bet there's still various bits of scum littered around your system. If so, search on Google and go download those two apps, run them, then find a good registry cleaner. RegSeeker is good, and free too. There is no reason for Kazaa Lite running badly on your system. I can only suggest that you werent using the software correctly.

Kazaa Lite is a fantastic program -- support it. All that crap about piracy killing music is overblown bullsh*t -- downloading music does NOT harm the artist. In my case and many others, I've ended up buying plenty of CD's through downloading mp3's, so K-Lite and P2P programs are actually bringing sales for the artist, contrary to popular belief.

Well, I suppose I'm banned now for telling it like it is.

You must have a prob Sidla - it comes up in the first 3 spots when I google it. It's still rubbish! :P

You're talking rubbish mate. K-Lite is excellent. Anyway, don't worry about it, Sidla, I mailed Jon the link already.

Tony
05-12-2003, 22:07
Well I'm not talking rubbish.. but you are right - I was using Kazaa, not Kazaa Lite. Kazaa is rubbish, and it does take ages to get it out of the system. Cannot comment on KL - wasn't aware that there was an alternative after trying Kazaa.

Ah, yes, just as I thought, because K - Lite removes very cleanly. Now go check out K - Lite and tell me it ain't the greatest P2P program!

[..]

I wasn't being rude when I said you were talking rubbish, by the way... I just don't like people talking bad about K - Lite. You're right about Kazaa though, it's a terrible program.

I *think* that for a short time it was 'banned' from search engines after certain organizations like Shaman Networks (Kazaa's creators) were trying to get K - Lite shut down completely. It's easily available again now though, I just checked Google and it came up instantly. :)

:) Great stuff!

For anyone wondering about Kazaa Lite, PLEASE -- only download from the official sources. There are many sites which lead you to fake versions, many that lead you to versions you have to pay for and many that will rip you off completely. Kazaa Lite has always, and will always be free. Avoid 'Kazaa Gold' at all costs. Download via the K - Lite forums only! : http://www.klboard.ath.cx/

Here's a link to a typically disgusting site, claiming to be K - Lite but not legit at all: http://www.kazaa-lite-legal.com/

They claim: "K-Lite is Perfectly legal. How can this be? It's simple, K-Lite charges a small one time fee to have access to over 80 million songs, movies, games, TV shows, softwares, and much more. So you have to ask yourslef this question, "Is getting sued for thousands of dollars better than paying a small fee for lifetime membership and having all the LEGAL safe downloads I want?" For the price of a music CD you can get instant legal access to millions of MP3's, movies and much much more."

KAZAA LITE IS FREE. THESE KIND OF SITES WILL RIP YOU OFF!

NIGHTMARE! I dunno if anyone can access this page without registering on the forum but it seems K - Lite is in danger of being shut down again:

http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=86083

:(

It's also real hard to find a download source now. This has all happened within the last few days!

Please note that when using Kazaa, Kazaa-Lite or any other form of peer-to-peer software product, it is your responsibility to obey all laws governing copyright materials and property. Sheffield Forum and its owners do not condone activities and actions that breach the rights of copyright owners.

There you go ;)

PS. In case you're wondering why I posted this - let's just say Google spiders love this site!

Kazaa Lite has been shut down:

http://www.zeropaid.com/news/articles/auto/12052003h.php

Not sure if this means that the app is no longer available for download, or that the network has been taken offline as well, but I'm sure if it's just the app then there will be plenty of mirrors springing up to offer unofficial versions.

There's better p2p apps out there now anyway.

It still works for me, so it can't hve been completely shutdown.

In that case I reckon they'll have just withdrawn the client from being downloaded any more but the network will still be there.

Sidla

Well Kazaa Lite uses the same network as KMD anyway, so to stop it completely they'd have to shut the whole Kazaa network down.

Much appreciated snoutie. Do you use BOTH Spybot and Ad-Aware? What is regseeker, I assume it cleans the Registry – is it safe?

Thanks again for K-Lite.

No probs guys, I thought that because there was a lack of places to download K - Lite at the moment I'd upload it to the webspace my own message board uses. Glad to be of help.

Carl -- Yes mate, I use both Spybot and Ad-aware, they both do a slightly different job and one will often find something that the other doesn't.

RegSeeker is indeed a registry cleaner, and a very good one too. I've tried LOADS of registry cleaners in the past like RegCleaner, jv16 PowerTools, and many more, but I seem to always come back to RegSeeker because it's very quick, never crashes like the other ones do and does lots of other stuff too like clearing Windows histories, erasing 'index.dat' files (logs of everything you do on your PC) without having to reboot, various Windows tweaks, etc.

If you give it a try, bear in mind it needs no installation (I like that), just run it from wherever you wanna put it on your PC, but obviously it'll be best to keep the RegSeeker folder in C:\Program Files or whichever partition your programs are kept on.

Just start it up and click 'Clean The Registry', once it's finished, right-click the dead/junk entries and choose 'Delete'. I'd avoid deleting the RED entries unless you know what you're doing, just erase the GREEN ones that come up.

If you never did this before, be prepared for hundreds, maybe thousands of things to pop up! Your PC will definately be better for it, anyway.

Hope I don't sound silly explaining this, you might already know about cleaning the registry, in which case just ignore me, but do check it out, it's a nice little program. Only a tiny download too. Using RegSeeker along with Spybot / Ad-aware should nicely clean up any mess left behind by Kazaa. Oh yeah, it is safe -- if something did get deleted that shouldn't have, just click 'Backups' and re-enter the deleted files back into the registry. Use your head though, don't delete the RED ones unless you're sure they're junk and all will be well.

Thanx Jamie,
it was all news to me all this spyware and ads. Until this weekend I had no clue what was going on. By the time I found out, our computer had been hijacked by a bunch of frigging web sites popping up all over the place. Ages ago I downloaded an email system called Incredimail which gave me all sorts of smilies, nice stationary and "enhanced" my emails. I find out months later from that I got Xupiter, GAIN and the likes, which slowed down my high speed connection to a point I thought we'd gone back to dial up. Anyway, I discoved Spybot and cleaned out the system.
You don't know what's happening until it's too late.
It's a crime! So I had to upgrade my windows system, download Norton anti virus (again!) , download spybot, this and that just to stay sane. A sledge hammer works good too!

There was a guy from Sony (I think) on the radio last night saying how much harm p2p does to the record labels. In the next breath he said that the last year's CD sales were at a record high...
