A cat has recently adopted us and a second cat wandered in to the kitchen tonight. I was in the process of shooing it out when I realised it was a bag of bones - literally! But it has a lovely personality, bright eyes and has had a feed and plonked itself down. If it does belong to anyone, they don't deserve it. My daughter saw it licking ice cream off the pavement a few days ago. Anyway it's purring away on a pillow downstairs while cat No 1 is doing similar in the kitchen.
What do you recommend I do with the cat. Could take it to the vet on the corner but that will cost. They charged me 12 quid to put a gerbil down. Could have fed it to the cat if I'd waited a bit (joking).
Give them both names and buy a tray of cat food Bloomdido

Have done that already! Misty and Tiger. Plenty of food too.
You're not going to try to find it's owner?
How do you know it hasn't tried to get 'home' after a house move, or it's owner is ill and unable to feed it just now. You may be 'stealing' the only friend they have on this earth.
(Right jar of worms, cat issues)

First, don't assume this cat needs help. As cats get older they do get thinner across the spine and end up bag of bones.
However thank you for caring about this cat.
If you saw my beautiful older cat George, you would properly think he needed rescuing with his thin boney structure, his eye tracts (from previous untreated eye infections before we adopted him), his ragged ears (from before we got him) and missing teeth (again he came that way)
However our George is very well loved and cared for with regular vet visits, he is just getting on in years.
I would recommend asking local neighbours if anyone knows who the cat belongs too.
Also get him/her scanned at your local vets to see if they are chipped.
When/if you find the owners have a chat with them about their cat, I'm sure they'll put your fears at rest. If you can't find the owners or are not happy with the response you get, you can always have a word with Bryan, the manager at Sheffield RSCPA.
However I don't think it will come to that.
If you need more ideas or a found cat poster read this....

Good Luck
PS. Please get both cats scanned and returned to their owner if you can find them, as there are plenty of cats who need homes out there, without stealing someone elses pet.

Do you know the art of Bonzaï Kittens ? If your cat is small, and a bag of bones, why not make art of it ?
Look for 'Bonzaï Kittens' in Google, a good read !

Yawn, if you are prefering to the sad and very boring 'joke' site about bonsai kittens. We have all seen it before, stupidly boring and not worth a visit.

Have asked around to no avail (cat 1) but will keep asking and put up a poster or two and get them scanned. Cat 2 is seriously bony. I have owned some cats and never felt anything like this before.
Thanks.

Bloomdido,
Thanks for getting these cats scanned, it is the right thing to do.
As for the thiness, it could be illness (kidney problems/FELV or FIV), the cat being lost, a breed type (Bombay cats are very thin cats naturally) or most likely an older cat.
If you find no owners and decide to keep them, I would recommend full blood tests on both cats and kidney checkup on the thin one.
My own thin cat went missing a few months ago and I really hope if anyone was to find him they would scan him and return him to me and not assume he wasn't being looked after properly :(
