Wilder Wine 02-09-2009, 14:45 Oh, so have I, but landlords simply don't fancy pets - they might have an allergic tenant next time and understandably they are not very keen on changing all the furniture and carpets after you move out with your dog. Try oodle, or petrent, you might find what you need. Good luck! WW sheffield_uk 02-09-2009, 14:50 I would just try asking any landlord u see with houses/flats for rent as the house we just rented said strictly no pets allowed and we just emailed him asking if 2 cats and a parrot would be ok and he said yes that would be fine  I think some landlords are desperate at the mo.. Sarah1985 02-09-2009, 18:20 Are you looking for a whole house or a room in a shared house? I might know someone with a room in his house. teeny 02-09-2009, 18:58 Oh, so have I, but landlords simply don't fancy pets - they might have an allergic tenant next time and understandably they are not very keen on changing all the furniture and carpets after you move out with your dog. WW There are a fe and if you offer a higher bond they will normally agree , we had a managerie when I moved her and my landlord didn't mind one bit , infact he comes down to see all of them Ruth123 02-09-2009, 19:22 Just a room is fine as long as the other tenants like the dog. Sarah1985 02-09-2009, 19:40 Ive sent you a private message. well i think i have :o) Stainboy 02-09-2009, 23:20 It's worth asking landlords anyway, I think some of them will agree just to get people in the house. Mine agreed to cats when cat owners wanted to have a look round. Wilder Wine 03-09-2009, 09:15 There are a fe and if you offer a higher bond they will normally agree , we had a managerie when I moved her and my landlord didn't mind one bit , infact he comes down to see all of them :hihi: I know, my former landlady ended up walking, feeding, pampering my dog while I was at work. Wilder Wine 03-09-2009, 09:18 Ive sent you a private message. well i think i have :o) I have hopefully sent you one too :) lyndsayx 03-09-2009, 10:12 Hi, let me know what you're after and i'll keep an eye out for you. We have one landlord who allows pets, but it's a four bedroom house which sounds like it would be too big for your needs. Jess22 03-09-2009, 17:58 I move out of our place at the end of the month. Posting for future users :) smudge74 30-03-2011, 16:54 I'm still looking for a pet friendly landlord. Anyone got any ideas? I have a very, very well-behaved dog. I got round this by offering to put down an extra £500 bond when I was renting. Most of them went for the idea, it's all about the money!! maneck35 01-04-2011, 11:01 I've found a 3 bedroom house in Crookes within my budget, but am a bit sceptical about it because I'll be the only one living in a 3 bedroom house! Going to view it today. Any suggestions? hello1964 06-10-2011, 10:29 Any pet friendly landlords in sheff? Away with all this talk of no pets no pets:gag: Redapple 06-10-2011, 10:40 Sportman Lodge Moor is very dog friendly. With bowls outside with fresh water for the pouches, the staff serves a good pint and great food inside. hello1964 06-10-2011, 10:42 cheers.I meant housing landlords . Murphy Jnr 06-10-2011, 10:56 Judging by the amount of dogs that get dumped I'm going to say NO jayne1983201 06-10-2011, 11:19 I've had a terrible time over the last few months trying to find a landlord who'll let me keep my dog! Finally found a one now who'll let me keep her and I'm so relieved :0) most of the estate agents I rang just said no without even checking! Rainrescue 06-10-2011, 11:23 Thats it - the management agents want an easy life, but then I have come across 2 bad tenants who have been negligent to property they were renting - allowing cats and rabbits to stink the house out and one that allowed the dog to just run loose through the house and the garden. No wonder some of them are frightened and just do a set no. Maybe write a letter saying you are prepared to pay a little bit more for the rent, or that you will pay a higher bond to ensure its kept clean. Leah-Lacie 06-10-2011, 11:55 My old landlord loved my dog, they did make me pay an extra £100 bond upon moving in, but were fine with her. But, after I left, and my ex kept the dog, he used to leave her in the kitchen a lot more often, while he went to work. She didn't like that at all, and soon had chewed her way through skirting boards and door frames, and even stud walling to try and escape. Can see why a lot of landlords are put off! Lotti 06-10-2011, 12:28 When I was house searching, I wrote to them saying that I would pay extra on the bond and also pay for/make good any damage that happened whilst I was there (pet related or not). I believe they can also be insured for the damage to property (I think mine are actually) and so you could look into that. Also, if it's furnished, you could offer to put their furniture into storage while you're there and furnish it with your own furniture and then replace with their furniture once you leave, so they can be sure no damage will be done to their furniture. I can completely understand why landlords are put off having pets, but they allow children (well most do) - and I've seen worse damage caused by kids! Sometimes you can get around them, others stick fast to the rules. Good luck! We ended up renting off my mum so can't say how successful this was! I did get quite a few emails saying they'd consider the dogs but obviously we then didn't go for it. I'll be facing that nightmare again in the next couple of years though... Lotti 06-10-2011, 12:29 Sorry - everyone's said about dogs and you actually say pets - what sort of pets do you have? Jennie Wren 06-10-2011, 13:27 Our landlord allowed our cats, rabbits, small furries, and marine tank on the property, we are moving out in a few weeks. We found a couple of properties that were pet friendly via estate agents but the back gardens weren't pet friendly at all! We have gone private rent again, as a rule of thumb we find private rents the way forward with pets in tow. robwillow 06-10-2011, 15:05 They will not tend to advertise being pet friendly, why would they? However, many will allow pets if you ask. Just as people have said with a bit more deposit. Does not make the search any easier though. My OH had tenants with a dog and the house was in better condition after they left than before; because they were tidy, clean responsible people. pitbull2012 06-10-2011, 15:25 my dad rents houses out, he has a nice 2 bedroomed house in chapeltown close to M1 and train station. Pets are not a problem but might need to pay extra on the bond. teeny 06-10-2011, 16:05 I moved in to rented property 11 years ago , my landlord knew i had 3 cats , 2 dogs , rabbits , guineapigs and hamsters he was fine , no extra bond was required. I did know of several pet friendly landlords but presently they have tenants, however there are landlords who are pet lovers too! MuteWitness 06-10-2011, 16:26 I found my current landlord on here, he is pet friendly and there is no hiding it with my posts on here! Just look around, private landlords are more flexible than agencies. Murphy Jnr 06-10-2011, 16:30 I found my current landlord on here, he is pet friendly and there is no hiding it with my posts on here! Just look around, private landlords are more flexible than agencies. Which is weird if they stand the chance of coining more money from people, preying on feelings and the like. Berkana 06-10-2011, 16:49 Have to agree with everyone - private landlords are the way to go! I've moved recently and have 2 dogs, 4 rats, 2 budgies and a hamster. I found my landlord on here also :) The house is just right for us - 6 foot fence to keep the dogs from escaping, it's round the corner from the park, and the landlord is animal friendly - he even brought he own dog when we went to view :D It took a lot of finding but they are out there - just reply to every ad you see and ask if they allow pets. I must've sent out 100 emails, texts or phone calls before I found this one! I've lived in 4 different houses in Sheffield, 2 under agency and 2 private and have to say the private ones have both been much better in terms of management. It's also cheaper as agencies charge extortionate fees to "process" applications, write references etc. and you usually have to put up with "inspections" every 3 months. hello1964 06-10-2011, 19:43 Thanks lottie. We have a cat. And yes berkana, these estate agents and their absurd so called inspections. |
