Hi,

Can anyone tell me how Body Fat Percentage is worked out? I am interested in knowing mine and therefore where I can get this done?.

I know about BMI Body Mass Index which is based on your height and weight and there are serveral webpages you can calculate this on but I am wanting to know Body Fat Percentage.

Cheers

id be interested in this as well.

i know i have too much fat...and sayin `right weight for height' is no use at all when you know you have fat you wanna shed!

actually i think im a bit underweight for my height....pah!

Fitness first in Hillsborough have some scales which you have to stand on bare footed and it calculates your body fat I would say this is the best way of doing it. I too am interested if anyone knows otherwise.

Bio-electric impedance isn't the best way - it's too dependant on other factors such as you leve of hydration etc. though is can be used to track changes, the body fat percentage measurement should be taken with a pinch of salt! Skinfold calculation are probably a better bet (look here (http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/fatcent.htm) for a howto).

How much can we trust these results ? cos they seem vague to say the least.

My results came back as a BMI of 24.5(normal, but if I were to be half a stone heavier I would be classed as overweight)

Skinfold test of 12.2% puts me in the class of elite athletes !
But the skinfold test is not affected by any change in weight

What a load of tosh... Mr Blobby for the Marathon in 2012 !
