This forum is overrun with nosy curtain twitchers and rubberneckers constantly wondering what the police are doing.

All you ever read is:

"The police were here at this time and place, what for?"

Every other post on here there is an example of this,

And before people have a go, it's not people just taking an interest, it's people simply being nosy.

A new catagory should be created on the forum for these threads titled "Police activity - Who, what, when, where, how?"

Don't forget the pointless threads where people ask quistions where they ask for information you can easily get by picking the phone up and asking, for example the thread about a party at SUFC. Then theres other quistions you can easily get info from going to google.

Yep. It's definitely useful for potential criminals to know where the police helicopter is 24/7 and whether the shops will be open on bank holidays.

I'm just glad people agree.

I'm all up for knowing whats going on around Sheffield but,

stuff like this is just ridiculous.

So why don't you just go elsewhere then?

I agree this website is not what it was (by a long chalk) but don't just complain for the sake of it- it just makes you look as bad as the general Muppet population that now frequents the 'Forum'.

I quite like it here. Although it does seem to be the kind of place where you might set your mum up on it for her first steps into the world of the internet. Kinda like 'cyber' chatting over the garden fence.

Oh good, I'm in the right place then, Hi :)

Welcome! Do you have any pointless chatter about seeing the police somewhere or unsavoury characters that you have seen in your area?

This sounds like one of Bernard Woolley's irregular verbs; I am community-minded, you are curious, he is poking his nose in. :hihi:

It's reasonable to want to know why there is police activity in your local neighbourhood. Most people usually find out about it by reading the local newspaper; if they can do so more quickly by coming to a local forum, I fail to see the problem. Often, the answer will turn out to be something routine and insignificant, at which point all interest vanishes; "Oh, they were just doing a traffic survey." However, if it turns out to have been related to criminal activity, it is only sensible for people to be concerned.

Because Meaks, between the constant murmering about what the police are doing, such as, why has this police car just raced down my road, why are there 15 police officers outside this address or why has the police helicopter been above my house for the past half an hour (These posts you obviously seem to enjoy, seeing as you're posting here defending them), there is sometimes some decent stuff.

In all seriousness, it seems that posts like this are in such an abundance, that a new catagory on the forum for threads like these would not go amiss, for people like yourself, who wish to stick there noses into everybody else's private business.

Sheffield is no more full of nosy people than the rest of the country is, or world in fact!

Have you ever been on the motorway when there's an accident and a few nosy people cause chaos by nosying from the other carriageway, slowing everyone down? Well here you can use the jog wheel on your mouse to skip passed them ;) (unless you have that crap thing that laptops have:hihi:).

Some people don't like threads that ask for something to do.. like this one (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=102028) which I randomly found :hihi:.. freedom of choice and expression and all :)

Glad to see in that thread that you are a Blade however. ;):hihi:

From some of the replies, there seems to be a proportion of people who enjoy reading the type of thread in question. Which is why I propose a new catagory for the subject on the forum, this would allow people who have no interest in other people's business to avoid it, and in turn allow those who wish to read said threads to do so without clogging up the forum.

There are about 50 thread titles on each section's page. Tonight, I've replied to 3 threads in 2 sections. That's around 100 threads that I've read the titles, of which I've chosen to not reply in 97 of them because they didn't interest me.

Looking at some of titles.. most aren't related, hence, I could suggest there should be 97 more sections. It's not very practical though.

You appear to be misunderstanding what is being said, Bruno.

Might I bring to your attention, there is no specific section for 'Things to do' in Sheffield.

There are many megathreads, this however was never the suggestion that I put forward, this is because megathreads quickly go out of date and soon lose relevence, especially in regards to 'Things to do'.

I think you meant to quote me there richy. It was me that brought that up. :)

Actually a 'things to do in Sheffield' could be a good suggestion for the 'suggestion section'. They just get thrown in the Sheff Disc at the mo.

We're going off topic now thanks to me, and your (perhaps) mis-quote. 'Things to do in Sheffield', should definitely not have 'what's a police copter doing above my flat' type threads. (unless one likes viewing them, and finds it a fun thing to do).

Try starting an idea in the "Suggestions" area and see what what would happen. When push comes to shove, this is a Sheffield Forum.

Yes there is. "Going Out In Sheffield" does this.

This thread seems the ideal place to say I've not heard the police helicopter over my house in months. Does anyone know over which parts of Sheffield it's been flying lately? ;)

So much for another new category, when even the op can't be bothered to post in the correct section :hihi:

Any person, who had even the basics of reading skills would see that, this thread was not just a suggestion for a new category. Please read accurately before posting.
