View Full Version : Rabbit spaying?
gina2007 30-08-2009, 18:04 Hello everyone, again!
I was just wondering if the lovely people of SF could let me know of any places that do 'cheap' spaying. I was under the impression it would cost about £40/rabbit when I bought them, only to be told at my vets its £84 each! We wouldnt be able to afford this until late october time and I really want them done so they calm down. We've got our emergency savings but we don't want to dip into that because our luck the cooker will blow up on us a week later.
We can afford to get one done this month and the other done next month, at £84 but really want them done together so they can 'heal' together and be happy buns together.
Thankyou for any recommendations, i'm going to ring round a few vets Tuesday when they'll be open properly as some are shut today. Thought i'd ask on here first though.
Im in S5 area and want to keep it as close to home as possible.

We dont get any of them, working tax credits?
Dont you have to be registered for x amount of time before they do any treatment anyway?
Thanks for this, Gina

Thanks for this, GinaNot that im aware off or you thinking PDSA even then long as your registed dont think theres a time limit only every 6 months renewal far as im aware
mummysaz21 30-08-2009, 18:55 oooooooooooooooo your a diamond, i am on a bit of housing benefit i was quoted 85 with my local vet

Umm, think it was the PDSA.
Yes it was, I was getting benefits when still living with my mum and wanted to get my cat seen too, I registered but she, went, before the time was up. I had to be on their books for 6 months before they'd do me any treatment.
Since me and the OH moved in, we get working tax but not housing benefit.
With mummysaz's comment it looks like £80 is the norm... :(
if you drive try spire vets in chsterfield (I feel like a stuck record as I keep on recommending them!!) but they are really good and no where near the price of some of the vets in sheffield. I have had male rabits done there but not sure of the proice - worth checking if you can - number is 01246 455333.

If you even get a bit of c tax ben you will qualify also.
If not try Abbey vets at High green they did mine for me and were great, I'm not 100% sure now of the cost but I reckon it was between £35 and £38 for a spay it might have gone up now but its worth an enquiry...still can't see it being £80, not hard to get to either just jump on the 88 bus round the corner from you and it stops outside.
Edited to add I forgot that they have moved but are still in High green, give them a call.
gina2007 30-08-2009, 21:02 Thanks for all the replies.
Will look at the list of websites terminator!
Sezbetz, I dont drive and hold a SY only bus pass, not valid in Chesterfield, thank you anyway.
I'll deffo give Abbey a call Moon. Thanks for that.
I do think, that £80 is a little bit steep. I was informed and under the impression it was around £40.
How much are other places doing injections for? If anyone knows..
I'll ring around but thanks alot everyone! Gina
holidayhutch 30-08-2009, 21:28 We use Abbey and I'm sure it was £34.95

Terminator, could you send me a number for the one that does it for housing benefit etc, I think we get abit of Child tax but im going to check our letters later to be sure.
Thanks everyone
terminator 31-08-2009, 18:34 The sheffield RSPCA unit can be contacted on 0114 289 8050
But for PDSA you would have to get registered first i would use the above if i was you there vets are more rabbit friendly.

gina2007 01-09-2009, 07:38 Just to let people know, if they are going to calll the RSPCA, its only open 10-4 everyday apart from weds. Just tried calling them.. Will call back after 10.
gina2007 01-09-2009, 07:50 Ive just got the yellow pages out, and rang 3 different places... and got...
Abbey (Highgreen)
£45.95 Female
£34.95 Male
£49.95 Injections
Hallam (Holme lane, Hillsborough)
£69.95 Female
£57.80 Male
£25.25 Injections
Springfield (Firthpark, Gleadless, Crystal peaks, Rotherham, Richmond road, Chapeltown, Mexborough, Wickersley)

Springfield have got an offer on, at 25% off rabbit spaying and injections. Although, everywhere else said 'full course' these only said, moximototis, and I know I cant spell it! So im unsure if the moxo, is the full course.
Will let everyone know what RSPCA say when I call them later on.
