Hi there everyone..
We have booked our wedding for August 2010 at the Botanical Gardens, which I am sure will be very lovely..
However, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a child friendly reception venue, there will be lots of toddlers there eager to run around outside somewhere and let off steam..
We would really prefer somewhere that is either cheap (!!) or somewhere we can do our own catering and decorations..
This is my first post on this forum, I have really enjoyed reading what everybody else has got to say and am looking forward to hearing all your great ideas!!
Thanks so much

Hello Chaz
Thanks for replying so quickly..
We are having around 80 guests for the ceremony and I think the evening do will probably be around the same, I would prefer somewhere not too far away from the Botanicals, preferably in the south of the city I think.
We are definitely open to suggestions across the city though, I would rather get the right place further away than somewhere that is no good nearby, if that makes sense..
Any suggestions will be very gratefully received!
We had our reception at Sheffield Park Hotel at Norton, they have an outdoor area that is in the middle of the hotel so very secure and also a nice big function room for kids to dance and slide across the floor!! You can't do your own catering though but they have many price options.

ponds forge is really good very flexible with decor you can have what you want they have their own catering however they will tailor make anything you want i wanted a pie and pea supper and it worked out at 4 pounds a head!!!!! great value for money. i think the hire charge for the room is something like 300 pounds plus an extra 100 if you wanted it from early morning. they have a little rooftop terrace which was ideal for kiddies (we have loads coming) and you can even put games and toys outside for them inside you get 2 rooms the main room and a little fallout area where the bar is it was plenty big enough and loads of room for the kiddies.
we were also getting married at botanical sadly we have changed our minds on our venue and moved it to magna but both i would certaintly recommend ponds forge could not have been nicer and more flexability is great
good luck

Hi,
We got married at BG then put on a bus to The Sherwood for the reception.
There were about 15 kids in total, most under 5, and although there was no specific outdoor space for them they ran around and had a great time. It was really cheap as far as Wedding venues go and they will let you do your own thing which was refreshing.
the boardwalk in town centre do weddings there is no outdoor space but it big enough for the kids to run around and u can ask them to provide doorstaff so they cant get out, kiddies entertainment packs help which we can help with. PM me if you would like more information. I also know a company who look after the kids and keep them busy at weddings so you dont have to worry about them.

Hi there
There is a place called millemium hall on ecclesall road (really near). You can provide your own food etc. Plus it has taxi's passing constantly. Also reasonably priced bar - so your guests can afford to have a drink! I went to a wedding recently and couldn't believe we were charged £9 for two drinks....I guess when people are looking for venues they don't ask for bar prices but personally I felt it made people avoid drinking (and that is never good at a party lol).
Hope this helps

depending on what you are wanting the stars and mafair suite at the old ice rink on queens road is cheap and you can do youre own catering, there are big dancefloors for the kids to run around on and comfy booths to lay them should they fall asleep. there isnt a link i can post you unfortunately.
