Her face is droopier on one side (her mouth and nose) and she seems to walk leaning to one side. What has or will happen if she has had suffered a stroke?

Sounds like it unfortunately, depending on the age they sometimes recover partially or fully, sometimes not. It happened to my gerbil, and he passed away shortly after but he was 3 1/2.

If they are having problems eating and drinking in particular, develop breathing problems, or have subsequent strokes it may be more humane to have them put to sleep. Keep a close eye on them over the next couple of weeks.

She is getting old now as she is 4 and a half. She seems to be eating and drinking fine for now. Thanks for the reply.

Gerbels have a great abilty of getting over strokes keep him warm make sure he can reach food and water very easy inner ear infection can somtimes be mistaken as a stroke though but going on how you descrbed it then maybe so.Bring him down to a ground level only for a time if he already is then great. Not a lot a vet could really do unless it was inner ear they would put him on antibiotics probably

Thanks for the reply.
My mum said it wouldn't be worth going to the vets as nothing they could do.

Is it painful for the gerbil?

I do agree with terminator- that's everything we did for ours- he had bedding, food and water all in the same place so he didn't have to go any further if he didn't want to. he seemed fine- apart from walking a bit wonky- for a week, then he went downhill within the space of a day and a half. he passed away in the night before we were going to take him to the vet to be pts as he'd stopped eating :( I have heard stories of gerbils going on a lot longer after a stroke though.

Half the time you can tell whether an animal is in pain by observing them and their behaviour compared to normal. if they're eating and drinking and displaying a willingness to partake in their normal behaviour it's an encouraging sign that they're not in pain

Is it painful for the gerbil?I wouldnt think so probably more cunfusion than anythnig but inner ear infection can be or irritating .You,ll know if it sleeps ok But if its totaly restless or breathing looks out of place then id be off to vet.
