hi, about 4 weeks ago i seperated my female rabbit from her then 9 week old babies because she'd been in a hutch with a rabbit that i thought was a girl but then turned out to be a boy. and then she was showing signs of pregnancy.. i did write on here about it..

so just in case she was pregnant i seperated her from her babies, but now i know for certain she isnt pregnant so im wanting to put them back together becuse my plan is for them all 2 live together 4 ever.

but im strugglin with bonding, iv never done this before and need advice please. yesterday i put em in run with mum and she was chasng them and then tried humping them quite aggresively, yesterday i just removed her more o less straight away until i got advice from you guys..

so how do i go about it, obviosuly i will supervise at all times but what do i do when she does this to the younger ones? and also how long do you think it wil take before they will be ok in hutch together again? thanks in advance people :)

The humping is just her way of showing the little ones she's in charge. It's a dominance thing. Put them all in the run and leave them to it. As long as she's not hurting them or pulling fur out it's quite a natural thing for her to do :)

oh really i thought i had a long task ahead. the babies are 12-13 week old now do u think this will hurt them? and will she stop eventually? i just feel so sorry 4 them seein her do that to them and they just lay there helpless, especially the one with 3 legs bless her.. shes quite timid anyway and looks really scared when mum was doing this to her. yesterday i kept knocking mum off, should i just leave them to it then?

thanks 4 ur advice :)

My rabbits do this all the time when I introduce a new one to the group. As long as she's not being nasty with them(biting them or pulling fur out)leave them to it and they'll sort out the pecking order. Once they've got their positions in the group sorted the humping will stop. The babies will probably also hump each other to sort out who's next in charge:) don't worry, it's natural :)

much easier when you got two pens or can section it off they get used to seeing and smelling each other without causing any probs.

with stuart and harley i think they will always fight until castrated as they are 2 entire males and not brothers, if they both get castarted i cant see why they couldent live togeather after thatxxx

I have staying here 3 neuted not related rabbits who still don't get on an I have a an un neauted pair of brothers that do get on rather well together, but on't live in the smae hutch together, I find males harder to bond with eachother than females.

We had two brothers together who were fine for a couple of years then decided they hated each other and would never be put back together again - and they say women are tempremental! Not sure how many rabbits you have but if you get them done can you ond them as male female pairs as they always seemed to work out better with all the rescues I used to take in? I did have a pair of sisters who happily lived together until one passed but other than that they were all male/ female bonds.

well 2day i tried the bondin as i was workin yesterday and it didnt go well at all. lily was scratching and biting. so do u think neitering will be the answer?

well sezbets i only have 2 boys and 4 girls. so wouldhave hav at least 2 females together if i did male female bonding.

oh im upset now i had visions of them all livin together happily, obviously not

They are better after neutering for sure, but I have bonded a neutered male and un neutered female and they are great together although she does chase him a bit when she is a bit hormonal, she will be spayed asap...but it can work and does here.
It is best to bond them in neutral territory rather than the run if you can, somewhere that none of the rabbits have been before, a spare room perhaps? or bathrooms a good place.
Start off by putting a mesh partition between them and then once they are either friendly or ignoring each other you could remove it but watch carefully, then keep them together all the time for a few days before re introducing them to the hutch where they will live, once bonded you shouldn't part them again at all.

My two ladies took ages to be friends - used seperate cages and lots of patience......

Marmalade still humps jam (tho the worm is turning in that department as jam gets bigger) but overall they get on pretty well now. They still have their moments with fur pulling but hoping getting them both done should fix that.
