I think its going to be a very tough examination agains a very good side- im happy that greenings gone to fulham- have always hated playing against him. I think it will be a draw or we might JUST pinch it at the end.

Should be a good crowd too 28k+

Bring it on, as you say its going to be a real test, lets hope Blackwell can say “you haven’t seen nothing yet” at 5 o’clock on Saturday.

I saw the `Battle of Bramall Lane` in TJ Hughes on Saturday (The Blades at 120 DVD)
I forgot just how bad it was.
How I cringed at some of the antics. OOOeer!
Can't just one of you try to make me look a cretin, rather than all ganging up?

Oh, sorry, I almost forgot, you're Blades aren't you, that's what you do?

It wasn't really, though. As Reading are playing like relegation fodder!

I do think this is the second big game of the season, and we took a point from the other one. I think that a draw would be a good result.

It will be a tough match and a draw would not be of any harm and losing would be no shame, I wouldn't say it would be our 1st real examination as Middlesborough haven't dropped point since playing us, Watford have only lost to us and Leicester are still unbeaten.
I think we caught Reading at the right time.

Wasn't a playoff game. I went to Hillsborough in 93, so my first game at the lane would have been a year or two after. Think you had people like Veart, Nilsen, Littlejohn playing. Don't think I ever went to the lane after about 97 (apart from when Wednesday played there)

EDIT Balls to that, I remember Sneekes and Hughes playing for West Brom, so 98 is probably right. Wonder who United played the first time I went to the Lane. Hmmm I remember drinking Bovril.

well im not too sure of what to make of that game. youve got to praise the players for their character and steel to come bak twice.
but youve got to heavily criticise blackwell for the type of football (if you can call it that) we are playing, and the inability to change things if it is going to plan.
today was route one all the time. its not only boring to watch, but it was highly inneffective against west brom. he should have seen that after 20 mins and changed it.
the team has the wrong balance with ward in midfield, and quinn is pretty poor and not strong enough.
people keep saying that all we need is a good midfielder. but even if we had messi, alonso, or xavi we would still play route one as blackwell doesnt know anything else.

this will be the first time i have said it but. Backwell out.
he has to go, or this football club will go nowhere.

sheff71
29-08-2009, 22:04
I thought we started ok, especially when Treacy was involved, but after about 15 minutes it reverted to long high balls. This would be acceptable on occasions, if your target man got a fair share of decisions, but when he got penalised whenever the ball was near him, you've got to change your game plan.

West Brom didn't look that great though either, and resorted to long ball too easily themselves. I assume Bednar is related to the ref, with how he managed to avoid a booking until right at the end after a series of fouls...

A point against the leaders was a fair result, hopefully our results sequence will continue as it has been this season - Draw, win, draw, win, draw so far... win at Derby, draw at Cov and then win the derby :) One thing for sure, the defence can't switch off like that and get away with it again.

We had just equalised and were in the ascendancy when we got an attacking free kick. Blackie waves the players back until we had just 3 in the area. Compare that to a few minutes later when WBA get a free kick level with our area. All the Baggies players were in our penalty box except 2 defenders. They wanted to try and nick it, Blackie was happy with a point, as illustrated by taking Ward off and putting Howard on to bolster the midfield. It beggars belief how negative he is, it really does.

I felt he only took him off to stop him getting injured. WBA were quite dirty throughout the match and, the nearer the end it got, I felt that WBA would start lashing out a bit more. So better it be one of the less important players that took the brunt of it, rather than one of the more important.

With only a few minutes to go, and having to come back twice to secure a point, I don't think I could fault Blackwell.

Would you have been happier him making a "positive" substitution and us going behind with a minute or two to go?

Personally, I'd take the point over a possible loss any day.

They do it with all of the clubs to be fair. If the presenters agrred with every caller, it wouldn't be much of a programme would it?

Dot
31-08-2009, 10:38
I've got to say that I thought the football on offer was pretty poor with a big boot up to Henderson seemingly the main option most of the time.

When we did get it down (first 15 minutes or so) we looked good and dangerous.

I said last season that Blackwell doesn't have a plan B for when things aren't working and if this is his plan A he is soon going to alienate supporters even more.

I think it was a good performance by the blades, we battled with them and caused them problems all day. I agree with what dot is saying though- we do struggle to find another 'plan' when the forst one isn't working.

The midfield was very scrappy today from both teams but thats what you get when you have 2 very fit teams- you get no time to do anything with the ball and it was only in the second half we could get the football down and play our thing- which did result in 2 goals.

Killa did look like his mind was elsewhere- ill be glad when he re-signs.
