View Full Version : Wedding place name cards and favours
abbi_3105 25-08-2009, 11:31 Hiya,
I am wondering if anyone has any good ideas for place cards for a wedding. We are having a christmas wedding but do not want santa, snowman holders etc. At a friends recent wedding she had place cards that had the name meaning on aswell which I thought was nice. Anybody have any good ideas? Something a little unusual? Does not have to be christmas themed as I could just tier the colours in.
Any favor ideas?
Thanks, Abbi
quinnite 25-08-2009, 20:47 Etsy (it'll be the first link on google) is a great place to find ideas for unique wedding ideas - it's also pretty cheap. A lot of sellers are from the US, but postage has always been really reasonable whenever I've bought anything.
Have you looked on the 'not on the high street' web site? They have all sorts of different ideas. You could get individual chocolate bars with guests names on? Or even have cup-cakes iced with guests names. These also double up as favours so not hammering the budget too much.
I've seen some small photo frames and you could use those for name settings with each name inserted where the picture should be and then again they double up as favours too.
Love2print 26-08-2009, 10:43 Perhaps you could get some bespoke ones made?
I know you said to stay away from Santa, etc. But what about snowflakes? I have seen some nice wedding invites with snow flakes on. Maybe you can buy matching place cards.
Maybe a Silver and Blue theme, snow, ice, icicles, etc.
If your going for the Christmas colours you might want to got for maybe a Vintage or Victorian feel. Dark greens/reds seem to go well with vintage/Victorian style themes.
Maybe miniature lanterns (perhaps like Victorian style Christmas tree lights) that will hold tea lights could be given as favours. Would also look great on the tables if they were lit, especially as it gets dark earlier in winter.
weddingdaze 27-08-2009, 13:45 oooh a Christmas theme sounds lovely! Try Becki @ http://www.favours-stationery.co.uk/ for inspirational stationary ideas!
What about a nice little envolope with the guests name on and inside you could pop in a lottery ticket or scratch card?
Thats what I'm doing any how. x
Purrball 29-08-2009, 11:01 How about buying some baubles and then writing people's names on them? Would double as a place card and a nice keepsake favour!
Harrelle 01-09-2009, 19:52 Something called escort cards are very fashionable at the moment. This is where names are hung from a decorative stand - people find and collect their names and the card has their table number written on it.
As a twist the stand could be some form of elegant christmas tree and the name places could be written either on really beautiful baubles, shimmering snowflakes or those little parcel xmas decorations which you could put an individually wrapped chocolate in.
That was a bit tricky to try and explain - just an idea.
a friend sprayed pebbles gold and silver then we wrote names on in enamel paint as place cards - and everybody kept them
at our wedding we bought black and white candles in glasses from Asda's Christmas range and wrote names on
the florist narked me off, so instead of floral centre pieces for the tables, we had a large plate of thorntons continentals crowned with their easter bunnies (well it was easter) instead of individual favours
We had gel candles for the woman and a small bottle of whisky for the men and tied the names on them with ribbon same colour as theme
KATIEB_23 02-10-2009, 15:47 This is what we had & everybody kept them: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c12/KATIEB_23/_367.jpg
I think I got a box of 100 stands off an ebay shop for £40
I printed photos of each person myself to match the table plan I made: http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c12/KATIEB_23/_364.jpg
Favours: well I am decsended from Russians so we thought a mini bottle of Vodka would be apt! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=261325&id=751185709&op=6#/photo.php?pid=7057959&id=751185709
The last wedding I went to, they had champagne corks with a slit cut into them & the name card slotted in - that looked very nice.
If you want loads of fantastic ides have a look at this thread on 'you and your wedding' forum: http://www.youandyourwedding.co.uk/chatroom/topic/214447
That girl (Charlotte) had so many amazing ideas, her wedding is going to be featured in Cosmo Bride next month!
She had CD's made with their favourite tunes on as favors that doubled up as place cards because the front of the CD sleeve had the person's name on.
Sarah1985 07-10-2009, 06:55 For a friends wedding I made up mini cakes to look like caddles. I stacked up several small circlular cakes iced them white and each one had a sugar flower attached to match her flowers (daisys).
She used them as favours but it wouldnt be too difficult to add place names written in icing rather than the flower. Pm if your interested.
Swifty237 21-11-2009, 15:43 Thorntons do chocolate tags like the type you have on xmas presents etc. However they write names on in white icing for free. So you can have place name cards and favours in one. You cna adorn them with co-ordinating ribbon to match ya theme as well.
They only cost £1.00 each what a bargain and lovely chocolate too, yum yum.
phoebe23 21-11-2009, 16:04 My daughter has been making these for xmas presents

They would make good table centrepieces and people could eat them with their coffees
She also makes cupcakes. Like someone else suggested, you could have them as placenames and gift wrapped they could double up as favours. Or perhaps a mini iced fruit cake as its xmas?
dieselbabe 21-11-2009, 18:22 I agree with Thorntons, they do also do different wedding favours in box's or you could have you and your partner's initials has chocolates. My friend had the initials chocolate at her wedding. Can look on the site to see what other favours they do.

I could make you some!
I'm just in the process of making some to be sold on a few websites.
This is the only design I have made so far but the style of the tag, ribbon colour and button detail can all be changed to suit your theme.
I'm also having the ones in the picture at my wedding in June.
If you're interested PM me and I'd be more than happy to help.
The only downside is that I can't do calligraphy to put the names on the cards in a fancy way BUT I'm in the process of finding somebody who can or finding a nice way of doing it.

Angela......here....
Hey....i want to tell one thing personally that my wedding anniversary is about to come and u know it's my first so i m searching some special gift for my spouse.
Thanks
I have heard of a new company who produce fantastic unique things for weddings and anniversaries. i think you send them a small sample of something which means alot to you (confetti or petals or something you saved from the service or suchlike) and they somehow make it into paper and print a picture on it, so you could chose a pic of his favourite car or whatever if its an anniversary gift? Sorry I dont know what the company is called....maybe somebody else has heard of it?
