I am now renting in Broomhill. Quite happy with the area. However I am going to move in an ETH in Sharrow. Does it make lots of difference? Any advice on safety, pls.
Thanks a lot, everybody!

Does it make lots of difference? Any advice on safety, pls. Thanks a lot, everybody! Lib1 22-07-2005, 11:22 Hi I lived in a student house on Club Garden Road in Sharrow in 1998-2000. It was generally fine- we were never burgled or attacked or anything, but occasionally, you would hear/see police helicopters circling the neighbourhood. On this Forum, I've heard that the neighbouhood has become a bit rougher than before (talk of gangs verbally/physically abusing people)- there was nothing like this when I lived there, though. Don't know if this helps, but I hope that it does. Lib1 vodinhongnam 22-07-2005, 13:34 Thank you, Lib1. So I've roughly got an idea what to expect. carcrash 22-07-2005, 16:39 Whats ETH? I've lived in the area most of my life and generally it's a good area in comparison to other inner city areas in Sheffield. Good transport links, a couple of parks, some good pubs, some of the best and most varied food outlets in the city. vodinhongnam 23-07-2005, 15:34 thank you for your post. ETH is end terrace house Steelcity 24-07-2005, 17:55 We live nearby Sharrow and have not experienced any safety issues at night, but as with anywhere in a city, it's an idea to be careful and alert at night, especially on your own. Compared to broomhill, we've found the area around Abbeydale Road/Chippinghouse to be a lot more 'lively' and somewhat more noisy, especially due to the number of lads with loud car exhausts (although this seems to have subdued a little recently) and the tendancy for people to honk their horns quite a bit - but you soon get used to it. You do get small gangs hanging around on Abbeydale Road - usually the stretch around Oddbins, but they don't cause any trouble and seem to keep themselves to themselves. Not a problem as far as I can see. Basically, you are deeper into the city centre and hence it will initially be a bit of a culture shock compared to Broomhill (bar university intro week), but if you like food, it's certainly the place to be with lots of restaurants, cool little supermarkets and 24 hour shops. We've also found it quite a friendly place - most people give you a smile when you walk past them. Bully_Beef 26-07-2005, 13:32 I live in Sharrow and I'd agree with everything Steelcity has said. It's a friendly and diverse area, and none of the groups of lads you see milling about have ever given me any hassle. Plus London/Abbeydale Road is top for food etc. It's a'ight! |
