I've got a Nokia 6230 (black one with bluetooth etc) which I had for a year before dropping it in the sink. Anyways, my contract ended so just got a new one but would like this one fixed. Anyone know what's wrong with it.... I let it dry out forever when it got drenched, but now when I turn it on it just says "Insert SIM" even though there's one in????
Daft question maybe - is the SIM you're trying to use in it the one that the phone came with? It's probably locked to that one card... If it is, then it sounds like you've done some damage to it - not sure how much phones cost to get repaired! If not, take it down your local phone shop and pay a tenner or whatever the going rate is to get it unlocked.
Er, what's wrong with it? My educated guess would be that it got wet and now it's broken.
I assume you've had the SIM card out and have given all the contacts a light rubbing to clean them. Does the SIM card work in another phone, and does another SIM work in the phone?

I'll do it for quite a bit less than that. Although unlocking isn't going to help with a phone that is locked to a particular SIM card.
no its not the sim but the phone. i have a 7250i that does the same after getting massage oil all over it.
it works occassionally but then will just say insert sim
or sim failed.
not much i reckon you could do.
(maybe ebay it and deny knowledge once you have your cash)

Maybe you could charge a bit more if you learned how to unlock phones properly ;)
I found my 6210 in a small pool of water just now. Dryied it off, turned it on and it also said please insert sim. :(

I don't charge because I don't know all the ins and outs of unlocking so won't charge anyone unless I can satisfactorily provide them with the complete service that they require.
So if the SIM is locked to the phone, as in the phone specific SIM card security setting within the phone, unlocking it disables all the security settings does it?
Sorry, by "a bit less" I thought you were offering to do it for a cheap price :) I'll happily admit I'm wrong as it sounds like you know more about it than I do, although I'm intrigued.
I've never owned or known anyone with a phone that couldn't be unlocked if you knew what you were doing, although my friends stick to major brands which are usually pretty easy. I thought there was even a regulation that meant the network *had* to unlock it if you requested it? (although they are free to charge a fair whack to do it)
my screen is completly dead now. Though the phone is still working, still bleeping when i lock it and unlock it etc. Could i just buy a noka screen off ebay and screw it on? Or does it need sombody that reallys knows what there doing?
Its a 7210 ive got by the way.
