View Full Version : Have ASBO's helped anywhere in Sheffield?
Anyone know if these ASBO's or Curfew (Dispersal) Orders (S.30 CCS ACT) are having any effect in any part of Sheffield ?
Do you live in an area where there's a curfew order.
Are you troubled by Youth Nuisance or problem behaviour?
Are you fed up with young people getting the blame for all society's ill's.
Do you know anyone with an ASBO?
rothschild 22-07-2005, 00:47 We were so badly affected by anti-social behaviour that we moved...............allmost nine years ago! There were no asbo's then........in fact the yobs ruled the area and even the police were powerless to do anything. The darling children concerned belonged to four families.......and the interesting thing is that all of the adult "carers" of these children were the role models and each and everyone of them has been affected by their own kids behaviour. In one family the parents fought like cat and dog and the wife slept around and was known as the local "bike". Not only are those parents split up know.......but so are their two children. Each took their particular favourite to live with them! Both of these children have gone on to provide many problems for their parents. The second family were comprised of two previously split families. Dad had his two lads live with him.......his new partner left her two children and moved in with her new partner. His two children soon left and went to live with their Mother. Her youngest son soon moved in with them and created a real criminal wave in the neighbourhood........last heard he has spent his entire young adult life in and out of prison! The other two children belonging to the man won't even acknowledge their Father. Family number three thought that work was a bad idea.......apart from what work they would willingly do to supplement their benefits! Prosecuted many times for benefit fraud........but who paid the fines? Their young children would be locked in an attic bedroom while they were in the pub! They eventually split up and Mum moved away.........her kids wreaked havoc on their new neighbourhood. Eventually the eldest son moved back into his fathers home and the pair have since been arrested for drug crimes etc. Family number four moved in next door to us. To cut a long story short......after 2 years of pure hell this family eventually did a "moonlight" after "hocking" the mortgaged property all over the country as collaterall to support their criminal activities! I lost count of the the number of private detective agencies ringing us to try and find this bunch of trash! The police advised us to move..........and it was the best thing that we ever did. What was a perfectly decent and quiet backwater when we moved in became a hell hole and nobody could do anything about it back then!
If asbo's could sort out the sort of crap that moved into our area then I would say they were worth it. To be quite honest though I very much doubt it! The sort of scum that we came across have no respect for their own never mind anybody else. The children from these four families were all ruined by the very people that owed a duty of care to them! Unfortunately whilever we have adults that put themselves before their kids nothing will ever change! Asbo's will only attempt to punish the children........who will in turn act like children and treat it as a joke. It is high time that the parents were made responsible for their children. By all means provide a support mechanism for the parents so that if they cannot control their kids then there should be somewhere that they can turn to for help. BUT there will allways be parents that couldn't care a jot and will never see any problem with their own attitudes to life.
Depriving deprived kids will have no effect. I am not talking about a pair of the state of the art trainers here either.......because they all have them! Earning a sense of self worth is the best way forward. Call it boot camps if you want.......I call it working for self respect. Take the little buggers off the streets and make them work. Give them the chance to climb the ladder. Let them start from zero and earn each rung of the ladder.........then they will value it. Also it will be doing many of them a favour because it will be removing them from their "role models".
bigflesh 23-07-2005, 20:20 yes, I am affected and it sucks. I am not even allowed to walk my dog down the street after 9pm anymore!

I live not too far from Page Hall, which a curfew. Further details in this article in the Sheffield Star website dated 28th October 2004.
Crime blitz on the drug gangs (http://www.sheffieldtoday.net/viewarticle2.aspx?ArticleID=878703&SectionID=58).
The good thing about the curfew is that it gets the kids off the streets, and contributed to a relatively quiet runup to Bonfire night last year :)
Yes, the Council are trying really hard to make the area nice for when the wrecking ball comes down :D

Well, sad fact is, the 'angry, unwanted' youth are the cause (and, perhaps, victims) of a lot of the ills of society!
'Angry, unwanted' youth uncared for by their parents will turn to violence for 'respect' among their peers. But it's the parents who didn't raise them up properly in the first place :loopy:
Yes, quite a chicken and egg situation here...
I have heard that ASBO's are the new Burberry amongst a certain underclass...
Have the new curfew orders just displaced crime to the neighbouring areas then? Anyone know which areas of Sheffield were affected by the Curfew Orders?
Big Flesh - how are you affected - it'd be good to hear your view
Youth Nuisance, Noisy neghbours, Car Hell,
it all counts you know
You forgot garden fires the minute the weather warms up and people want their windows open and washing hanging out.
Usually accompanied by loud, booming music that can be heard 10 gardens away.
Both of the above usually perpetrated by the same intellectually challenged muppets who's kids are marauding animals looking for something to trash or nick.
God, I feel better now:thumbsup:
Sounds like you speak from personal experience?
I find garden fires ok at least they are not noisy or intrusive. It's the cars racing up and down the street at 3 am or the chavs with the boy racers and funk music systems cruisin' the streets destroying their ear drums which upsets me

It's not garden fires in general, it's garden fires in the middle of the day or early evening when everyone has their windows open in order to get fresh air in their houses.
These misfits must look around, think, 'Ooo look, everyone's got windows open. Think I'll light a fire...DURRR!!!' and light up.
The fact that everyone for miles around now has their windows tight shut and houses like ovens is lost on them.
They are even too stupid to realise that rubbish burns in COLD weather as well:loopy:
My car was badly scratched by a nuisance neighbour - she was three years old and the parents failed to cough up for the repair - haven't spoken to them since and this was 6 years ago
Don_Kiddick 25-07-2005, 18:45 Have you seen the Neighbours From Hell (http://www.nfh.org.uk/forums/index.php?showforum=2) website?
I do believe you have to 'join' in order to use it but it is a "phpbbforfree" type of site...
And a similar one for Garden Law (http://www.gardenlaw.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php?sid=31aeabd0e3f8cb3422041994e53b8e63) for those gardeners from hell
