Following rumours of boardroom interference, limited transfer funds and their indifferent start to the season, rumours persist that Rafa Benitez is on the verge of quitting Liverpool, with Kenny Dalglish the bookie's favourite to replace him.

Normally one would treat such rumours with a pinch of salt, but in this case the bookies have Benitez as 1-2 to quit the club in the next few days and the bookies rarely get it wrong. It's also a truism that when a high ranking official at a club publically denies such rumours then there's definitely something going on.

Are we about to see the first high profile management casualty of the season?

I hope not.
Not as much as I hope Fergie carries on playing Anderson, Carrick, Park and Giggs in Utd's midfield like against Burnley :D

And not as much as I hope Owen keeps missing sitters :D

And not as much as I hope Carrick carries on taking penalties :D

For whatever reason, money had piled in on Benitez being the first Premiership manager to part company with his club this season - he was as low as 1/3 at one point, in a 20-runner field.

He's now gone back out to 11/8, so whatever someone thought they knew it would appear they were wrong.

Wasn't it the same situation last season just before they played Real Madrid (twice) and Man United before spanking both of them? My positive side thinks that he will stay because he loves the club whereas my cynical side thinks he'll stay because there are no other top jobs available elsewhere in Europe. The truth is probably somewhere inbetween.

For a brief period, Gerard Houllier and Roy (?) Evans were joint managers at Liverpool. It didn't work out, Evans left and Houllier assumed full control.

Ah okay, it was the use of the word 'to' rather than 'two' that confused me.

I didn't notice that. I just read what I expected to read, since I knew what he meant. :hihi:

How many games did Liverpool loose last season? How many games have Liverpool lost already this season?

I reckon Liverpool overachieved last year and had a lot of luck, it seems unlikely that they'll finish 10 games against only 10 men again this season andthey ofcourse lost one of their most important players. Also Arsenal seem stronger and Chelsea have a manager with bags of league experience.

Of course I'm hardly the most objective when it comes to such things so there's likely a fair bit of wishful thinking in that.

Incidentally there were 4 minutes of extra time at the end of the 90 last night for Liverpool to try and salvage the game in, might be worth pointing out next time a Liverpool fan complains about one of their rivals scoring an equaliser of winner in injury time.

Liverpool need to get used to the fact that they have a lot of average Prem players who think they're good Prem players because they wear that red shirt.

I know what you mean. Voronin for a start. Looks like Emanuelle Petit, but in football terms is years behind and as for Lucas, he is probably one Brazilian that isnt good at playing football. Dont know how much Liverpool paid for these two but however much it was they were robbed

Lucas was excellent in the run in last season, and has started off well. To blame him for everything that has gone wrong is a bit short-sighted, and thankfully I doubt Rafa will be listening to Sky sports to get to the bottom of the problems at Anfield.

The whole team needs a kick up the jacksy - Gerrard, Torres and Carra all had shockers last night. Rafa kept the brakes on Inusa and johnson until the last ten minutes, and Masch suddenly seemed to think he was Beckham, taking wild shots from thrity yards that succeeded in nothing but breaking up yet another attack.

Voronin, on the other hand, needs to get back to making p0rn films.
