Here we go again!:D

The Sheffield Fayre committee held it's AGM, and we decided to go ahead and do it again...I know everyone here is thrilled and delighted:P - you should be!

Lots of you came along last year, and there was masses of positive feedback, which is always nice when you're shattered from organising something like that, and only want to hear the good stuff.

But now it's time for the real critique. I'd like to know what people really liked about the event - and what they may have loathed.

*What did we get right, and should repeat?
*What did we get a little wrong and could improve?
*What did we get so wrong you wanted to scream in our ears?
*Or was it so perfect that you want it all the same as it was this year?
*Is there something different you'd like to see?
(Please note: feedback such as 'the sun was in the wrong place for me to take photographs can you do something about it' (a real complaint!) isn't so useful.

ALSO: Should we start looking at the Forum's involvement now? We had some great ideas last year for advertising the Forum - like wearing Forum t-shirts with our usernames on; infiltrating the internet bus; etc. but there wasn't the time to organise anything much more than volunteers to pass out flyers.

All input happily recieved!

Love, Cosy.:D

Hi Cosy!!

I had a word with the hubby and the only thing he had to complain about was a small problem with the way a group of re-enactors worked - which is hardly your fault!!

*What did we get right, and should repeat?
The whole thing!!!

*What did we get a little wrong and could improve?
Not long enough. I think it would have been nice to have the Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Refreshments. Not enough of them and a bit expensive.

*What did we get so wrong you wanted to scream in our ears?
From my POV, a bit more information for stallholders and for those who are not used to that end of the city a few more signs and directions!

*Or was it so perfect that you want it all the same as it was this year?

See above :)

*Is there something different you'd like to see?
Don't have my creative head on this morning - but I think of anything I will let you know.

I think you should have words with those other weather folk. We could do with another glorious few days like we had this year!

Well I got on the internet bus this year and sorta left the forum on screen :). I have a contact for T Shirts that we can have the logo printed on - but I would have to check about further personaliseation.
What about Sheffield forum having a stall in the community tent ???

Hi, Moon:wave:

I could do with knowing what the problem was with the re-enactors if possible (PM me?)

You are so right about info for stall holders - believe me, it was as confusing for us, so we're working hard on that.

Maybe you have more contacts with the weather gods, lol, so any help you can give...but bear in mind, I believe we are changing the date - I will post more info when everything is confirmed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well I remember you saying I wasn't the only person to have a word and that there were a few other denominations had words with their 'powers'.

It seemed to do the trick regardless of who was responsible. A nice community effort for nice weather!

The re-inactment was excellent. Id like to see alot more trade being there, (you know, like people giving away freebies etc.) Like the sheffield show used to be about 10 years ago.

Also the price was right! I hate paying to goto the Sheffield Show :(

*What did we get a little wrong and could improve?
The lack of bins!!

*What did we get so wrong you wanted to scream in our ears?
As above!!

*Is there something different you'd like to see?
I'd like to see better a better fair, as we just walked past all that as it wasnt that good/too expensive

Forum Involvement
Id like to see the forums logo adorning the roundabout signs

Bins: I will definitely take the bins issue back to the committee. I believe one problem was that the re-enactors didn't want bright yellow bins next to their displays. But we did get lucky this year with the amount of rubbish - there was actually less!

The fairground: Bob is considering mixing the rides amongst the rest of the displays instead of segregating them. (could be fun for the re-enactors!) Is this a good idea? Would it make people more likely to visit them? Or is it the actual quality/price of the rides that was a problem?

Entry fee: we have no intentions of changing the entry fee of exactly £0.00p, so that's good news.

The Forum: well, Geoff, any ideas?

Re-enactors bins:

Why not use bins which blend in with the times then? Such as wooden bins etc.

Fair rides:
They were in the right place, it was a quality/price issue

:)

I would have said that the -enactors themselves would have made sure their areas were clean and tidy and not left much behind them when they left.

I like the idea of wooden or diguised bins, that may work and be more agreeable with the enactors.

I never made it to the fairground - but I don't like the idea of the rides being mixed in - they seemed in a good place.

Its not so much that, but id bought a can of coke (at a whopping 80p!!! this really needs sorting, it was a really hot day and i could only afford ONE drink!) and I couldnt find any bins at the top of the hill :( so i ended up walking all the way back down to find a bin :(

unfortunately we don't have a lot of say in how much the traders charge for food etc.
Try going into the Centre in the Park next time. Their prices stay the same. i.e. a can of pop for 55p. They don't change prices to suit the days. The food is good too, and you're supporting a local enterprise.
Traders tend to be pretty pushy to say the least - and we can't police them all. I wish we could. Plus, they're canny - they must've charged us less cos we were wearing badges. I'd have had a fit if someone had tried to charge me 80p for a drink!

We have a committee meeting tonight. Anyone got anything else they want brought up tonight?

Yeah why not let have forumers have sole trading on drinks.

We could sell cans for 50p and make a load of money and give profits to charity or help promote the site:thumbsup:

I hate the fact that some smart business type with a catering van is making extortion profits on drinks and food.

I never went but I heard lots about it.

Can you sort the weather well in advance, book it now and you should be ok

This is not a criticism - I enjoyed the few hours we spent at the fayre - but I expected there would be more of a 'market'.
Don't get me wrong, the stalls and things that were there were good - I just expected there to more of them!
Perhaps on the back of the sucess of this year more traders will be encouraged to attend.
