It seems there are loads and loads of Staffordshire Bull Terriers wanting good homes but not many people wanting to take one on. Why?

Why would/would not you take on a rescue Staffie?

I don't think that I would take one but only because I feel that they would be the wrong type of dog for my household and it would not work, they are also very strong and I doubt that I would be able to safely exercise one.
Other than the above reasons I do think that Staffies are nice dogs and make fabulous pets, they tend to be very loving and loyal and are real people dogs, as well as being great with children.

Several years ago now we were dogsitting for some very close friends while they went on hol and they had 3 staffies, now we had visited several times a week for years so the dogs knew us well. Unfortunately one evening the younger dog decided to exert his authority on the oldest male dog who I have to say was brill and didn't retaliate at all but the younger dogs jaws locked as they do and there was blood flying everywhere and the growling was frightening :suspect: took us absolutely ages to get the younger dog off and ever since then it has put me right off staffies for life. The older dog needed several stitches to his muzzle poor thing. So now I am very very wary of staffies and even dogs who have some staffie in them. I dread to think if this had happened to any my friends three young children let alone having it happen to the other dog!!!!! Jeez was I scared that night lol.
I have to add though that ANY dog can turn and be in an attack mode so it's not just the staffies!

We rescued a staffy cross and it's the best thing we ever did - he's amazing!

But I think that the problem is, quite a lot of staffies don't get on well with other dogs, and most dog lovers who like to rescue dogs already have some dogs at home, making it difficult to rescue a staffy.

So that only leaves non dog owners as possible rescuers, which narrows down their chances by quite a bit :(

Have 2 both rescued and i wouldnt be without either, one is as laid back as they come and the other hates himself let alone anyone else that moves outside his pack. Its not a breed thing my JRT X is exactly the same.

I agree with you KatieB although it can work my 2 are proof of that.

I would have a rescued staffie, but I am full to the rafters with the 4 dogs (not staffies). I've got at the moment so it is something to think about in the future
