Hi, I am wanting some advice about letting my kitten outside for the first time. Sky is now 15 weeks old and had his last vacination last week so he is ok to go out. Weve had him outside tonight on a piece of string so he cant go too far but really worried about letting him off on his own. How do they know where to come back too?! Wont let him out on his own without me till hes neutered but if he does wander off and i cant catch him in time how will he know how to get back? Im also worried about him getting stolen as hes abit different. Does that happen often? Any advice would be great! Thanks :)

It's usually a good idea to go out into the garden with them the first few times, until they build some confidence. The best time to do it is just before feeding time - an empty belly makes kitties more inclined to come home.

I "trained" mine to come home if they heard a fork being banged on a plate. At feeding time, I'd hit a plate a few times before I put their food down, so they associated the two things. First few times out, I'd let them go a short distance, then bang the plate and back they'd come, to a very small amount of cat food or a few treats, as a reward.
