Sue Townsend, the creator and writer of the Adrian Mole series of books, so I understand from listening to the Jeremy Vine Show on radio two, no I wasn't wearing a cardigan at the time, has lost her sight.

The reason she gave for becoming unsighted was diabetes but it was the rapid progression into blindness that surprised me. She said that it all happened over a 3 month period when she realized that she needed stronger and stronger magnifying glasses to read newspaper items.

I admit, I am very niave when it comes to diabetes, maybe somebody could enlighten me to the varying symptoms, and there severity.

I'm diabetic, and have to have a diabetic-screening eye test every year....I'm not sure of all the problems that diabetes can cause, but I know poor eyesight (or even blindness) is one of them. I think it's more common in people with Type 1 (Insulin-Controlled) diabetes, but can't be sure of that.

I have Type 2, Diet-Controlled diabetes, with which I was diagnosed about four years ago, and when I last went to the opticians, I was told I had the eyes of someone 10 years younger.....I'm sure there's a misprint on my birth certificate:wink:.

Is it not something to do with finer blood vessels ?

I thought with this condition you also have to be careful with fingers and toes ?
