for some reason its not reading cd's its trying too (its clicking and green light flashing) but nowt happens.any ideas anyone..cheers,btw ive had it about 2 years and use constantly do you think its time to bin it?

'fraid so , especially if it does it on more than one cd.

CD drives have a limited life span (as do all drives), you could try using a lens cleaning disk, it could just be that. But they are so cheap to replace (you can get a CD/DVD ROM for about £15) you might as well buy a new one.

you'd tried a drive cleaner Kirky? Might just be dirty from all those dodgy cd's ;)

If it 'clicks' a lot, one possibility apart from the lens being dirty is that the stepper motor's shot.

I'd just buy a new one - they're pretty cheap and reasonably easy to fit.

buy a new one...........get cd writers for about £20 now

ive got 1, which was free when i bought 100cdrs

And if you haven't already got one, get a dvd writer - they are only just over £30 for a decent one :)
