i've bought and sold a few and it hasn't taken longer than 6 week. get your solicitor to chase them up.
I think the general time is eight weeks 'ish, but I guess it will depend on how many are in the 'chain'. I had 10 in my chain, nightmare!!!

we have the solicitors on our side. They have done everything we have asked the problem lies in the estate agent we only found out 3 wk ago there is a divorce at the botton of the chain we was not told this at the beggining and told our buyers buyer was ready to go. i spoke to ur buyers and they are as mad as us.

i avoided chains when buying / selling.
go to your estate agent and threaten to give up on the move. that might make him pull his finger out of his a55. that is underhand on his part though.

We were told 4-6 weeks as we were first time buyers and there was no chain...
it still took nearly 4 months!
Its didn't help that the vendor was being awkward on several things, then his solicitor went on holiday for a fortnight... nice eh!!
We moved to our current house two years ago, it took six months. There was no problem with the move itself as we were renting at the time and were not part of a chain. The problem was with the previous owners moving into their new place. Their new house had belonged to a woman who died and there was a probate case going on. We were quite lucky in the end, probate cases can take years if there is a dispute. I hope this isn't the case with you but I would get in touch with the solicitors. We only found out through badgering them to find out what the delay was.

why is it the estate agent's fault that there is a divorce at the bottom of the chain?
why is it the estate agent's fault that there is a divorce at the bottom of the chain?
It is not there fault there is a divorce at the end of the chain the point is thery allowed a buyer that did not have money to buy, we was not told of the devorce either as you would not drag your self into one as they can take months or years . And if you was to go buy a car you would'nt go with out cash the sales man would not let you buy or hold it for you as another buyer could come along and buy it. so that is why i blame the agent they have not been all together honest have they ?? my solicitor and the ombusman agree.
They take as long as they take. There is no hard or fast rule. Chains tend to take longer as there are more parties involved. Lesson for next time, look at the sellers and buyers situation. This time you just have to sit it out or pull out.
Thats the problem we did look at the other buyers situation the only problem was we were not told the whole truth, if we had we would not have joined the chain and i think the agents know it.
