how can this be done?

can someone IM me to discuss this, please.

I am basically wanting to burn 'files' onto cd-rw instead of dvd-r so i can erase and use again.

Use Nero (http://www.nero.com/en/) for burning.. If I may ask, what "files" are you trying to burn?

Why do you need to know what files they are?

Are you trying to accumulate brownie points for reporting him if he answers "warez"?

How many points does it take to become a mod? :D

Well lets face it, he does ask for questions like that talking about "files". And to be honest, asking the question in the first place seems a bit odd, what is so special about these "files" that you have to ask how to put them onto a cd? Maybe there's something special that we need to know if the answer is anything other than just any old cd writing program...

In the absence of any other information, I'd go with Nero too :)

rich951, Are you the same person as 'Rich' or is this just a coincidence?

Pure coincidence. Or maybe all Richards tap into some weird cosmic force that makes them think alike.

Nah, I just wondered if the file type mattered as to what advice to give him. Maybe for example he was talking about backing up dvd movies to divx to put onto cd-rw, which would make it a whole different story as to how to do it :)

I reccomend CD BurnerXP (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/) its as good as nero, if not better, and its free, once you get used to it, its bloody good.

Remeber, if you use it, and like it, bung the guy that few quid sat in your paypal doing nothing. :)

I thought the question was about splitting the file into chuck small enough to fit on a CD. If that's the case you can use www.rarlabs.com (winRAR) and rar (similar to to zip) the files into 700Mb chucks, burn the chucks to CD..transfer to wherever you're going...unrar in the new PC and wipe the RW again.

I wondered about that, but why couldn't he have just said that himself in the original question? :) The other obvious solution that occurs to me is to just use a rewriteable dvd!
