Hello,

Does anyone know exactly where Walkley, or rather Lower Walkley, ends and Hillsborough begins?

Is it as simple as north of Holme Lane is Hillsborough and south of Holme Lane is Lower Walkley? Presumably the boundary must be defined for local electoral purposes?

I ask because we have purchased a house recently in Dodd St and the snob in me would prefer to describe it as Lower Walkley!!

IMO Walkley ends at the end of Morley St and then Hillsborough goes down either left down Walkley Lane, or right down Ripley St towards Langsett Road and Morrisons.

Good call Rich - looking at the A-Z your analysis would suggest that Dodd St and Trickett Rd (off Ripley Rd to the south) are therefore in Walkley!!

That's more or less it, although I would have thought Lower Walkley extended down as far as Thoresby Road - we used to live in Manvers Road and that was always Lower Walkley, not Hillsborough.

lol - I agree. My snobbery was indeed ironic no matter what this lobster_8 character suggests! (Dear; please not on a public forum!).

Tell me, kind sir, which newsagents are you? With my copious newspaper buying (Sunday Times, Observer, NOTW and the Mirror on a Sunday) - obviously I read the broadsheets whilst sitting in the half of the garden situated in Lesser Walkley - you'll find me a fine customer... not to mention our need for cigarettes which should go someway to supporting the local economy!

As for you Mr Purple - Upper Walkley - not quite Crookes old bean, eh?!?

Walkley electoral ward is here:
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/elections/ward-boundaries/walkley

It includes a fair bit of Hillsborough (inc Dodd St and much of Hillsborough Corner) and other surrounding areas and of course the boundaries change over time to take account of population movements. But because of the hill, in reality the lower bit is definitely Hillsborough - though there isn't really a clear boundary. As a general rule I would ask you how often do you walk up to South Road? If the answer is 'hardly ever - it's too bloody steep' I'd say you live in Hillsborough. Estate agents put 'Walkley' on almost anything.

Say it loud, we're Hillsborough and proud!
