Hardly ever - they are purely for display!

We use the groggy towels from the airing cupboard!

Depends on usage, but no less than once a week - working on the assumption that you/your hands are clean when using a towel.

As infrequently as is hygienic, in order to minimise the environmental impact of having them.

I don't understand. Sorry.

I wash my towels in an electric washing machine with detergent. This is ultimately not that good for the environment, but having re-useable towels is better than having disposable ones I suspect.

Washing them every day, or every few days is not necessary in my opinion - I wash my hands with anti bacterial soap, so in theory what goes on the towel is just water - and my bathroom window is always ajar so the towel dries quite well. I find I only need to wash the towels every couple of weeks, but then I'm not in much.

If I were to be using the towel to clean my hands, rather than just to dry them, then I suppose I'd need to wash them more often.

In theory, they should never need washing if you shower you are clean, so you are just drying up clean water

It doesn't apply. There are piles of clean towels available in the bathrooms and people use them and add them to the laundry as they see fit. There isn't any set plan. Rather like there isn't a set plan for changing toilet rolls.

I changed the handtowel when it starts to smell, which is about twice a week cause my other half uses it most of the time, and the bath towels abouy twice a week when they start to smell funny. They take ages to dry as we live in a ground floor flat and dont have a washing line so put them in the dryer or over the radiator in warm weather but still dont smell as nice when you put them on the line.:hihi:

No....this is serious. We have two televisions, one in the bedroom and one in the lounge. She likes to watch TV and has planned her progs for the evening....BUT....the TV in the bedroom is on the blink and England are playing Holland at football at 19-45pm.....so I need you to tell me how to pursuade her that it is better for her to watch the football than it is to watch her progs.

Just chloroform her!

It's not that difficult to work out.

Anyway, back to the OP.

I usually change my bath towels daily as I love a fresh crisp towel when I get out of the shower. Hand towel stays for a couple of days.

I do mine every 14 minutes and 36 seconds. There is no window in my bathroom so I have to switch the light on. Each time I have to use the switch I must flick it 28 times or my sister will die

I don't put fresh towels in the bathroom. I have an exchange scheme; I exchange dirty towels for clean towels from the place the dirty ones are deposited - usually bedroom floors, over the banister, over the radiators but not usually in the bathroom. This scheme is ergonomically friendly and cuts out so much work rounding up dirty towels and then traipsing into the bathroom to put out the clean towels. Mind, when I'm having a shower I'll get a clean towel from the airing cupboard and leave it on the bedroom floor/banister/radiator for my OH to use. BUT I am not the one who ever leaves towels laying around anywhere other than over the bathroom towel rail - this is just in case my OH and/or sprogs reads this and realises that not everything they get yelled at for is their fault.

I change the big bath towels at least twice a week, the hand towel every couple of days. I hate damp or smelly towels. :gag:

Mathom
12-08-2009, 19:46
Once a week because we actually use soap and water before we use the towels, so they only get clean water on them, and then are hung in a place where they can dry naturally and not get smelly, that's a towel rail, and not the floor.

This is unlike plenty of women I see at work who 'show their hands to the tap' instead of actually washing them and then presumably wipe urine off their hands all up the roller towel :gag:

My towels are usually only crisp if I don't wash them often enough.

I don't use fabric softner on them, they're much crisper and nicer that way.

I don't use conditioner either, but if you want crisp, try a pumice stone (or a cruddy towel).

I only changed bath towels soon as one of the family use one, but we keep them in the airing cupbord and only get one out when needed, but the hand/face towel we have one each they get changed after a few days or so.
