Saturday football ritual:

6 pints

3 before, 3 after, go home, have a nap. Go out, end up significantly worse for wear.

I'll miss these saturdays with my dad, was the only thing we can agree on!

When I could be arsed to go down the Lane, I'd shove three, four or sometimes five Tetleys down my throat in the Cremorne before the match.

Very often it was the highlight of the day.

Occasionally, we wouldn't lose and so it would result in a celebratory drink that same evening. Ofcause, more often it would be an evening of drowning one's sorrows.

The net result (no pun intended) would be that come the early hours of Sunday morning, I'd be well-oiled, irrespective of the result.

These days, Sky TV gives me the freedom to watch the match in comfort, without getting cramp in my knees from 'sitting' on the Kop (or rather, for 'sitting' read 'being folded-up'), saving a load of money and having instant access to a fridge filled with chilled beer.

It also negates the need to go out and get wrecked after the game, as the effects of a skinfull of ale DURING the match often sees bedtime coming somewhat earlier than it did in the days of actually attending a match.

Part-time supporter? Probably. Full-time p155-head? You bet.

Incidentally, to answer the question:

Stella.

For me it's booze all the way. I like to have between 3 n 5 pints before I go in and then maybe 1 or 2 at half time (depending on how the match is going) then maybe 2 or 3 or 4 after. Having said that, occasionally I go with no booze if I'm feeling brave/hungover:hihi:

I can't believe it took 7, yes SEVEN, posts before beer was mentioned.

Football, beer, beer, football....

Surely nobody would drink bovril sober?
