I am very overweight and I am looking for other overweight people women who would like to hire a pool together once ot twice a week in Sheffield.

I am originally from Preston, lancshire & have only lived in Sheffield since June 2008.

When I lived in Preston I hired a private swimming pool once a week with 3 other overweight ladies for £14 for a 1 hour.

We shared the cost between us which was £3.50 each.

I am looking for overwight ladies to hire out a private pool in sheffield together once 1-3 times a week.

Please let me know if you would be interested, add your comments on this thread and PM me your name & number so I can get in touch with you once ive aranged a pool to hire.

Men can leave there details also as I may sort out a mens only or a mixed session as well.

If you can get a swimming pool in Sheffield for that price, let us know which one. I'll hire the whole pool to myself at £14 ph.

You really would be looking at somewhere private rather than the main pools. I'm not too sure who has private pools. Good luck with this though, it does sound like a very supportive idea.

hi lisa!!! if the sessions were really cheap id go, even if the pool wasnt near me. Im starting swimming in the next few weeks any way but to go to a pool and not have to worry about people looking at me would be brilliant!!!! good idea :)

oh if it was mixed sessions my fella would probably go too, hes only a few stone over weight but very self concious.

Please check out their health refferal & disability sessions on their website which include an aqua gym or women only sessions.

If I cant manage to find a pool cheap enough to hire then. would anyone be willing to come with me to these?

I am very big, so would make you look slim im sure, so no onw would be looking at you lol

ZEST also run a weight managment class on Wednesdays 6-8pm.

ZEST is in Upperthorpe near the post office. Its close to the 24 hour Tesco

If anyone would like any swimming lessons FOR FREE I don't mind teaching at all. I used to be a life guard and used to teach too but my qualifications have expired and just enjoy teaching, I think its a skill everyone should have an detirmend to help as many people as possible. No matter what size anyone is, they can learn to swim.

westfield swimming pool (nr crystal peaks) does women only sessions if thats any help :-)

There's a place in Mappleton you can use, I saw it today. It's called the North Sea.

I've never been but I believe that House of Elliot at Grenoside has a private pool. I think it's Halifax Road. S35. Believe they do swimming classes.

It's under new management I believe. May be worth a look.

Thanks for all your interest & advice regarding hireing a private pool for overweight people only.

The latest update is that since I spoke with then, Eckington swimming pool, now realising the huge need of overweight swim sessions & now knowing that no where in Sheffield offers them, they have had a business meeting and are now looking into putting "overweight swim session" on their weekly list of activities that they offer.

This would be great as we dont need to hire a pool if they did this & should work out cheaper for us.

Hi Everyone!

I have finally managed to find a pool to hire for £30 for 1 hour session, which includes use of a private jacuzzi and sauna & 1 life guard.

The session is on fridays 7-8pm (sorry if you go out fridays but it was the only slot available) starting on 11th August.

At The House of Elliot Swimming Pool,
9 Penistone Road,
Grenoside,
Sheffield,
S35 8QH

It will only cost £3.00 each per session, based on 10 sharing.

The rules are this:

However many people there are in the pool each week must share the £30 pool hire between them.

If theres 10 people it will only cost £3.00 each, 8 people would be £3.75 each & 5 people would be £6.00 each.

However it unlikely that half the pool will be empty at any one time.

Just out of interest, how will you define 'overweight'? Will you be calculating everyone's BMI at poolside? Or perhaps taking abdominal circumference measurements?

I thought that I would let you know that so far (sunday 6th sept 2009), there are 5 women will be attending the first overweight womens swimming session.

If you know of any female friends, family, collegues, etc who are overweight, then please let them know about this.

The more we have attend, the less each of us will have to pay.

The swimming session is cancelled this week friday, 11th august, as 2 ladies cant make it, which makes it financially unviable for just 4 ladies to hire it out .

However the 2 ladies can make it the week after, friday 18th August, which means that there will be 6 of us at least.

Sorry for the short notice of the cancellation, but I did request that those that want to come swimming book a place and PM me a contact phone number, but only 1 lady has done this, so I couldnt do much about it.
