View Full Version : 1st Game Of The Season Everyone - Calm with the negativity both sides!!
matt1889 08-08-2009, 22:22 Ok so we can state the obvious, both teams started off with a draw this season when undoubtably both in theory could or should have had all three points, more so wednesday for giving away a 2 goal lead, however all I see on here is negativity!!!! Chill Out!!!
I mean come on, theres loads of positives that you can take out of both of these games, I mean as a blade I can say that United impressed me in spells with the way that they spreaded the ball around and created striking opportunities through midfield regardless of the 1 man up front system which never works, but the midfield came into the game and showed a bit of class in parts. Also we kept a clean sheet and got a point from a fellow promotion contender so overall you have to think yeah we did ok really!
And wednesday, ok you dropped 2 points but oh well. First game of the season and you got off to a great scoring start by putting the ball in the net twice. And allthough I haven't seen the match yet no doubt certain players will have stood out for you and impressed you in spells??
I mean come on it was the very first game of the season after the players have been of and had a few hols and new players have joined etc etc, lets not be negative at what's happened this weekend....Personally i'm just taking all of the positives out of what i would consider a teething match and hope that we can build on it more and more as the season goes on!
Nobody can really tell what is going to happen in the Championship until close to Christmas, let alone after the first match. I think the fact that there are so many draws says a lot. For promotion it is any 3 from 18 or 20.
scoobydotcom 09-08-2009, 04:19 i think we've all been dying for this season to start so much that we've all over reacted (probs me included) but its to be expected after the first game ...
hurstyowl 09-08-2009, 09:05 unbelievable how there were only 3 matches actually decided via win or lose, looking at the table and seeing all those 1's next to the points haha, such a tough league and the term 'anyone can beat anyone' will be more so this year than any.
cardiff for automatic promotion!
neither team lost ,so thats a plus point . its a long hard slog and there will be many twists and turns on the way .

It's like the football forum has it's own confucius! :hihi:
You'll be telling us it's a game of two halves soon.

or something about seagulls
And he'll say he's been to a game
(but I can't mention why he can't go or its removed)
Im quite positive after fridays match- i thought we played some good stuff in the first half and the defense looked solid.
We won't come up against a better winger than johnson in this league.
canadablade 10-08-2009, 11:18 That match had 0-0 written all over it.
Going to Boro the first match of the season and getting a positive result is like a win for United.
We never liked like giving up a goal and although we didn't create much (apart from maybe we should have scored in the first 2 mins ) Its the way a match away from home should be played if you want to be in or around the play-offs at the end of the season.

Have you forgot about Damien Duff?
darkscience 10-08-2009, 17:31 Has anyone thought that it could be because the sheff derby is so early this season, it's in the back of my mind already, maybe we're all trying to score cheap points over one another without realising it.
Or maybe i'm just slightly mad...!!!

Oh yeah, forgot about him because he was non-existant last season. (even when fit)

He's now playing in the Championship pal, and he scored on Saturday.

He will walk this league in my opinion. I remember him (and David Dunn) ripping United to absolute shreds back in 2000(?) at Ewood Park :(
Have you forgot about Damien Duff?
Duff's been a shadow of what he was at Chelsea since he left - certainly not the threat he once was. In Johnson and Yeates, Boro certainly could cause a lot of problems when they get to grips with the division.

As of 2009, Duff is apparently worth £14m coming in 92 in Four Four Two Magazine's 2009 Football Rich List.
Duff if fit will kill defences in this league mark my word.

If fit - that's been part of his decline though, regular injuries. With the way Newcastle are selling players, I wouldn't bank on him being there too long!

He's commited himself to helping Newcastle back into the Premiership like Alan Smith, Kevin Nolan, Nicky Butt, Stephen Taylor.
A very good spine for a Championship team.
Then Damien Duff Newcastle could actually do it after all is said and done.
