View Full Version : British Car Auctions (BCA)
GimpyChris 08-08-2009, 21:29 Evening all,
I have been sat for around a month waiting to buy a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 sxi 3d.
I have been checking Autotrader and the flow of 05 and 06 plates with under 50,000 miles seems to be pretty slow.
However, when using the BCA auction view they seem to be no shortage of these going through the auctions but i have no idea how much these cars fair in terms of price. I have 6000 max to spend but don't want to turn up at an auction and find these are going for much higher than i can afford.
Does anyone have any idea if i am likely to get myself one for this price? If anyone has access to any sort of back catologue of sales prices that would be great. I have searched the web but no joy :-( Have also tried calling BCA but they do not release sale prices.
Chris.
Try theses,

GimpyChris 08-08-2009, 22:10 Thanks, i use Parkers a lot, it's a great site.
But i am specifically trying to obtain BCA auction prices if at all possible. I know how much these cars sell for at trade and privately, it just seems that BCA have more choice of cars, colours etc at BCA as several go through every week.
If they're going through auction, you can more or less guaruntee it'll be a fair bit less than trade or retail, that's where the trade buy and then they put their bit on
parkers guide is the best one to use...very realistic based on spec of car etc
Give Manheim a call and ask...

Just go and see what they are going for. You dont have to buy on the day if you dont want to.
GimpyChris 09-08-2009, 15:39 Thanks for the replies. Think i will risk an auction (unless anyone knows anyone selling one of these).
Hook, thanks for the tip, i will give them a call.
Ruffday, I have no holidays at work remaining so getting down really isnt that easy for me, espacially if i am just browsing. Just a shame BCA only seem to sell decent cars in the week. Does anyone know of any weekend auctions that are likely to be selling this type of car?
I may be wrong but i thought manheim a have an online auction but you have to register first. The best way to get a bargain there is to find out when it is a vauxhaul finance night repocessed cars generally sell for less .If you can get down to view before the sale ask the staff for the report on any vehicle you fancy the inspectors are usually spot on ,this i am sure of as i worked there myself for a couple of years.
carsupplier 09-08-2009, 16:11 This may give you a rough idea of auction prices GimpyChris.
It's from the 'Scottish Motor Auction Group' and it shows all the Astra's that have been through their auction over the last five weeks.

Chris.
GimpyChris 09-08-2009, 17:22 Thanks to both of you for the advice.
Have a look on www.honestjohn.co.uk as he lists certain auction prices every week. The other thing you can do is ring the auction centre where the car is going and with the reg number ask for an idea of the sale price. They won't give you the reserve but an idea of what they think it'll go for. Sometimes they're high, sometimes low just depends on the day.
GimpyChris 09-08-2009, 18:37 Cheers Steve, just having a read through now.
builderbob 29-03-2011, 11:10 careful of using parkers prices in my opinion they are overvalue cars
