EDIT: seems to not be able to sit down, sorry for the vague details, he's only been with us for a short time. Also if anyone knows who we can contact to give him too that would be a big help, as with it being saturday people are taking a while to get in touch.

he isnt limping, but it seems to us that he is in some discomfort when he is sitting down; i'm pretty sure its nothing major, just a few other people noticed it when we were at the park, so we've been watching him.

Laura, it might be his anal glands wanting cleaning out. Dya want me to poster the area? Bet someone is missing this boy big time. Has he been scanned? Have you phoned RSPCA 2898050 to log him as found? RSPCA might be the first place the owners might go to to find him. Just a thought xx

Can I offer some advice as an expert in finding stray dogs! (gods knows why lol)

I must do this once a fortnight at least.

The main thing to do when finding a stray dog is to see if he is microchipped at the nearest place with a scanner, because if he is he could be back with his owner within the hour! We have found dogs and when a car hasnt been available I have even taken them on the bus!! Because It is ssoooo important to get them scanned for a chip prior to doing anything else.


This can be a problem if he wont go in a car but im sure some treats will help him get in the back of the car.

What we do if there is no vets in the area open is to take it to the pdsa building just off Brightside Lane, they will scan him for a microchip and check him over to see if he has anything wrong (with you saying he cant sit down) with him. If he is chipped they will contact the owner for you and the owner can pick him up from there.

If he isnt microchipped they will advise you what to do from there.

Believe me, after years of doing this for various resuces this is the best thing to do.

the first thing to do is inform the warden that yiou have the dog ,this is a legal requirement , if you have trouble getting in touch with them , then i would be pleased to take the dog to kennels till monday they can then pick him up ,he may have already been reported missing but if you dont inform them you can be prosicuted !

i heard that the owners have been found and he is getting reunited later today ....yeay !!!!

just to add the stray dogs can be taken to the kennels in town which used to be the rspca but now is the council kennels for dog warden service. there is someone there 8am til 10 pm every day to take strays :thumbsup:

Oh right, 3 weeks ago I took one to Attercliffe and they took it in then the next days transported it to the kennels.
But like I said, I normally get them scanned rather than taking then to any kennels firstly. Mind you thats assuming people have them microchipped, luckily this year I have helped 27 dogs and only 3 werent microchipped.

Dropped the dog off at rain rescue earlier today.
He did have a chip; so fingers crossed!

I'm ringing monday to get the latest, and i'll let you all know :)

hi laura ..it was the sheffield council kennels that you took him to chuck ...and as far as im aware he is now safely back home with his owners ....your a good one for taking him down to the kennels ...bless ya x

Shame you didnt have transport straight away to take him to pdsa cos as he was scanned he could have been back with his owners straight away.

Oh well all well thats ends well.

A collar with address and phone no. could have solved the problem immediately!

Yes indeed i got definate news today that he was reunited with his owners on saturday night, so he was only in the shelter for a matter of hours :)

makes me glad that my own dog has her microchip!
