View Full Version : Sunday league teams folding!!
The Manager 07-08-2009, 22:43 Just thought i would put this thread on here,
2 teams i know of so far have had to fold due to short of funds , also add to that at least 4 or 5 sunday teams last season folded i or the players i know tell me.
So any Points you could give to sunday or saturday league teams out there to maybe help them?
My points are - always make sure players pay there sub money!
Have a sign on fee! we have £10 sign on fee but some clubs i know charge £35!!!
Also -spot ball cards in pub or ask players to take them to there work place to raise some funds maybe
I do think its a real shame the amount of clubs thats are havin to pack up!
The Manager 11-08-2009, 23:41 Seems odd you dont want to help other teams out - how many more teams will fold in sheffield leagues ??
Robbie Loving 22-08-2009, 09:17 Having two sponsors always helps.... pub team name and also a shirt sponsor.
It's a lot of money starting up a team, what with league fees, fa fees, kits, nets, corner flags, balls, training balls, pitch fees. But it's all worth it.
Gypsy Hack 22-08-2009, 16:33 Yeah last season was a joke - 3 teams folding from Division 1 Imperial, the season finished with 7 sides.
Not sure I have much to add in the way of advice though, beyond what has already been said. Managers need to be firm about a "no pay, no play" rule, get a sponsor sorted out as soon as possible, and if you're really struggling to survive, a whipround or a fundraiser is always an option.

When my sons played my wife was treasurer and getting the kids to pay their subs was a nightmare, some parents think they should just be able to turn up and play, they don’t realise what goes on behind the scenes to get a game on Sunday morning
Crunchy Nut 23-08-2009, 13:23 I founded a team in the Imperial League about 13 years ago,was the manager, treasurer and secretary,oh and star centre forward lol
Its a bloody nightmare running a club but i loved it
You need a Pub
You need Sponsorship (we had a bloody good one with Balti King Curry House,a grand a season)
If players dont pay they dont play
We organised Race Nights,Car Boot Sales,A Meat Raffle that brought in 70/80 quid a week and we did the football cards in the pub
We were the Man City of Imperial League and we were in the 3rd division when we started
Unfortunatly people cant afford to spend these days and it costs a hell of a lot to run a team
Unfortunatly nowadays people can't afford to spend which is why teams are folding

Good posts on here,
I agree some players do take it for granted and dont seem to pay there sub money or its a case of "ill pay you double next week etc etc"
So deffo rule that teams should have "no pay no play"
I do feel sorry for the amount of teams that seem to be folding tho
Crunchy Nut 24-08-2009, 11:09 I used to have one player who was always skint and asked if he could wash the kit rather than pay subs,1 sunday while i was on holiday he went round all the players asking for a quid each to pay for washing powder!!!
