View Full Version : Have any Blades not recieved their season ticket yet?
alex3659 06-08-2009, 17:43 I have just been reading a thread where wednesday fans have not recieved their season tickets yet and have been told to go down to the ground and collect them tomorrow, one day before the season starts.
I was thinking if wednesday had hit mr straffords target for season tickets there would have been havoc with the queues tomorrow.
This seems not very efficient and bad organisation.
I wondered is it the same for united season ticket holders this year or is this just a wednesday problem?
Just a Wednesday problem, they have never had so many season ticket holders, wonder if they have had a trial run of the electronic entry system, that could create problems like ti did when first introduced at the Lane
happyhippy 06-08-2009, 17:47 My card was activated when I paid for it (or so I'm promised!). I've no idea about new season ticket holders though.

I would guess it is much easier to adminster when you've kept prices at 1990 levels and people are just renewing each year!
Yeah your probably right it must be the quality of football that keeps them coming back year after year whats your reason
It's understandable as they only fairly recently found out if it was viable to use the swipe card system. The ticket office staff have been working their socks off this summer.
nope- even when i changed seats 2 years ago i got mine posted out about a month before the season started.

yes I understand,a lot of owls just aren't renewing these over priced season tickets.
Good organisation by the Blades though to get everything out on time.
I can't understand strafford wanting to sell more if like you say they are finding it difficult to deal with the ones they have sold.
Maybe the fact that you was using a 1930's ticketing system up until this season confused the staff.
To be fair is it a massive system to install and get working.
Titanic99 06-08-2009, 18:01 Yeah your probably right it must be the quality of football that keeps them coming back year after year whats your reason
I don't know about that, even if I didn't like football it would be worth £270 quid a year to my little un and I to get out of going shopping each week.

I'm not having a go at the staff but Alex does have a point, how the heck would we have coped with another 3-4 thousand.
I hope everything goes well on saturday but I shall be getting their early just in case!
I don't suppose you know why we are keeping 2500 tickets back, surely we sell all the available seats until either demand has ended, or the ground is full!
Titanic99 06-08-2009, 18:08 To be fair is it a massive system to install and get working.
Most people will accept that and we certainly won't be giving the staff any grief over it.
Did you have similar problems at the Lane when you introduced yours?

Maybe they only have so many pies.

Like you HH no problems
I mate who used to pay on the day due to work has applied for one and got his swipe card 3 weeks ago
WhiteHawk 06-08-2009, 18:16 Did you have similar problems at the Lane when you introduced yours?
No I don't think so. Theres obviously the occasional problem with it not working, seemingly randomly, for some people but I don't think theres ever been major problems with it. The only time I had a problem was when I used my season card to go to some England v Germany charity game they had at Bramall Lane. It wouldn't work at all and the steward had to let me in.

thanks for giving me a laugh with that bolded bit:roll: to be fair its a new system, if the same happens next season though i will be more concerned. relax, the season is about to start, sure it will work out ok

not really- only on the first couple of games while people got used to actually using the card- after that its been fine- so much quicker.

you really need to bear with the club. It's the second time the system will have been used. In a few weeks everything will be running smoothly and next year there'll be no problems with season tickets. The whole system's been overhauled so give them a chance.
We won't sell out anyway, but those seats have been kept back due to feedback from supporters saying they could make the match but only by pay on the gate due to work commitments - something along those lines. It leaves all options open for fans.

3 times mine has gone dead, but the steward contacted some bloke walking around with a scanner thing and put in the number, saw I was legal allowed me in, and the man came and gave me a replacement one at 1/2 time brilliant

The 2-2 derby at the lane there was a problem in the away turnstiles which inevitably lead to trouble outside.
I think at the Lane, they trialled it for half a season (or a season?) first in just one stand, I think it was John Street but could be wrong - then it was introduced fully over the summer, so they'd had time to work with it and sort out any issues.
It is handy to have a credit card size card than the old style books, and not even having to replace the card each season - saves creating thousands of unnecessary cards each year.
Hopefully there won't be any problems with the turnstiles on the day, i'm sure you'll have loads of extra staff on around each turnstile to deal with issues.

So let me get this right Alty, are you saying the club could have sold those ticket to people who WANT them but the club saved them for people who May want to go to the game?
Panthera 06-08-2009, 18:36 the stewards and staff at hillsborough have had swipe cards for entry and exit all last season, maybe that was the trial

Well yes, but I think it's fair to say it won't matter. There's loads left in the South Stand. So far just over 28k have been sold. We'll only be looking at a crowd of around 31k in my opinion

Can I ask you how you know all this?
I know people have said your lee strafford but that was cleared up.

Know what? The OS has said just over 28k sold. They said seats held back due to feedback from supporters wanting to pay on the day. Theres a fair chance it won't sell-out, therefore it won't matter. I personally would just sell them, if people turn up and they've gone, then tough luck.

I will bear with the club and comply with all the requests they make of us.
What I can't understand is why they needed to rely on fans feedback to reverse this decision of making the game all-ticket. Surely someone at the club could have foreseen that this issue would arise when the decision was taken to make it all-ticket, so why was the decision made.

Thats not a bad crowd, what did wednesday get at home to barnsley last year?Apart from beat.

I don't really know pal, but on the OS it said after discussions with the Safety Advisory Board, the decision was made to allow pay on the day, so maybe it wasn't the clubs decision.

Sensible answer would be they thought they would sell out but haven't.

Got to be safer to have tickets sold than not knowing how many will turn up.
I just think supporters of ALL clubs get a large amount of rubbish told them by their clubs.

Anyway it's done now, let's hope it all goes smoothly and we put in a good performance on the pitch.

Absolutely appalling last year. 23k I think. Barnsley didn't sell many either. We usually hit the 28k mark against Barnsley though.

I don't think anyone believed this would totally sell out, should be a good atmosphere though!

Might be a kickstart to the season with the right result.
For barnsley I mean.

We got just under 26k last year, which was about 2k down on the previous season. That said, massive United who were going for promotion only managed 27k against them.
It was obviously getting boring for the fans beating the dingles every time they've been to Hillsborough for a league game since 1984, so we let them win one last time ;)

Pretty much the same as what happened with wednesday at the lane last season.

No, not really.
Before winning last season, Wednesday were only beaten at the lane 3 times in our last 10 competitive games there, whereas the dingles had lost in 9 consecutive league and FA Cup visits to Hillsborough.

1984 Wednesday 2-0 dingles
1979 Wednesday 0-2 dingles

My post was tongue in cheek like I hope yours was about LETTING Barnsley win.
al_partridge 07-08-2009, 09:00 1984 Wednesday 2-0 dingles
1979 Wednesday 0-2 dingles
We lost 1-0 at home to them in April 1983, I think it was a bank holiday Monday if memory serves. I remember going home hating Ronnie Glavin, I was only 11 :)
We started beating them in the 1983-84 season, the 2-0 was in late 1983 so yeah technically I should have said since 1983.
alex3659 07-08-2009, 09:03 We lost our first game to Doncaster last season,I was there and I will gaurantee we didn't let them win.
Paul Blade 07-08-2009, 09:07 Pretty much the same as what happened with wednesday at the lane last season.
Did you know Alex it was only 63 years since the dingles did the double over them and that Wednesday have only won 5 more league games than the Dingles in their history

Yes, the wednesday fans wern't familiar with the system so they couldn't work the turnstyles- leading to delays.

That was you Wendies who didn't believe in swipe cards........shouting one adult through the meshing. I saw a few running back to Hillsborough;
"Turnstyles that open on there own, its voodoo i tell thi!!"

I'm sure there was a problem with one of the turnstyles, as a fair few didn't get in until 10 mins after kick off. Didn't affect me as I sat in the home end with a few other Owls.

:D Nope. Not one for trouble me, I just go to enjoy the footy. It was awful when Beattie scored, I just stood up. I think the people next to me knew I was an Owl by then.

Maybe not but according to benny you should be arrested for being sat in the home end
