The Kaiser Chiefs album is great, it's impossible to be sniffy about pop music that's as lyrically funny and as catchy as what those boys produce.

The Magic Numbers album is also very good, as is the Bloc Party one. Some good nominations this year.

It's all so predictable though. Is there really any point in putting Coldplay on there? What kind of statement would it be if they won? Magic Numbers are breezy and cheery, agreed, but a little like an energetic Beautiful South. And Kaizer Chiefs do write good pop, but are very disposable.

There is some brilliant British music out there that could do with the exposure (and the dosh) that this award would bring. Best album of last year for me was Adem "Homesongs", and it didn't even get a sniff.

seconded with Adem.

Its meant to be a prize for British music and echoes diversity.

most of those bands aren't exactly groundbreaking.

KC have a few catchy tunes.

BP are awful imo

MIA- I heard the hype and then listened to it and not impressed.

if you are going to nominate Coldplay then why not James Blunt?

at least GO!Team are slightly different.

Anthony and the Johnsons is the only one that slightly stands out and its not that good.

Completely agree. The Go! Team are by far the most interesting act up for nomination. As for James Blunt; is there a more sick inducing, rancidly cynical piece of sh*t as his song that's at number one at the moment? "Blunt" indeed, what an appropriate name. Rhymes with another word that's fittingly appropriate too.

Did you catch Adem and James Yorkston at Bar Matrix last year? Really intimate, quite something else.

Yay, the Kaiser Chiefs!

Great music, great look, great performance at Glastonbury! Way to go!

Please...they can't seriously vote for Coldplay's X&Y - I find it tedious and such a boring listen - I don't like the way people are literally 'programmed' into liking it, or think they are being cool by saying "yeah, chris martin, what a genius!"!!!

Rant over...!! hehe!

My vote goes to either Hard-Fi - quality album and fresh sounding...or the Kaiser Chiefs...

Haven't had time to read this thread so I don't know whether we are still Kaiser Chief bashing or not...

But I have to speak out in their favour! I saw them at Glastonbury and they were ace, as is their album.

Quite liking KT Tunstall as well though - she's rather popular up her in Scotland at the moment and great to chill out too.

Coldplay... now don't get me wrong, I really like them and I think X&Y is a great album... but I don't like it being nominated, for several reasons, not least that it's only been out for 5 minutes.

I'd like KT Tunstall to win or Anthony and the Johnsons, at least he represents diversity of some kind.
