View Full Version : Where to buy chicks crumbs and layer pellets
chrissy84 04-08-2009, 08:50 Ive got four adult Aylesbury ducks and decided that i wanted some more and thought it would be a great idea to try and hatch some myself looking on the internet they say hatch rates can be as low as 50% so i decided to get 16 eggs and guess what 15 of them hatched lol typical right?! now im trying to feed 15 baby ducks does anyone know anywhere that has cheap chick crumbs near hillsborough?
2 G.s.d's 3 Turtles 25 chickens 4 Aylesburys 15 Baby ducklings and a poor husband to be.. lol Ducklings for sale p.m if interested :hihi:
good grief you did get a good batch!!! My next door neighbour had some chick crumb in for her aylesburys - I shall try and find out where it came from. The only other places I can think of are quite a distance from hilsborough.
Good luck with all your ducklings :)
chrissy84 04-08-2009, 09:48 Thanks sezbets
Its rather annoying as im trying to get some more hens and the hatch rate on chicks at the moment is really bad had 24 eggs and so far only got 6 alive :( theres allways next year i suppose. The problem is selling the ducklings i cant keep any suggestions? ive got them on gumtree on here and birdtrader so far only time wasters :suspect:
How annoying for you. Not really got any other suggestions as to where to advertise them, but I will ask around for you. I had thought of forums like river cottage but I have a feeling that you cant dvetise good for sale so that would be no good to you!!
Typical when you want the hens that you get such a low hatch rate isnt it!!
I will get back to you if I manage to find out where the crumb came frim - it was the farmgate variety. Failing that you could see if Lottie on here can get hold of it (she delivers pet supplies)?

Ive got both chickens and ducks and if i didnt have family who like the hen eggs id have stop breeding my chickens. i suppose i see where your coming from cause duck love water and like to spill it everywhere and poop abit more than chickens. but i have mine free range at the farm and the ducks go off to their little pond and only come back when its night or i shout them for food. so no mess for me :hihi:
I have however got some ducklings at home as they are not big enough for farm yet and to be fair they havent caused me any trouble i have them outside in a run and at night i shut them in their hut and spray down the run area simple done in less then 5 mins. my husband2be was convinced i was only allowed ducks at the farm but hez realised they are quieter than chickens and easy to look after im allowed to keep two at home now
i suppose it late in the year for ducklings but im struddling to sell my last unexpected hatch so if anyone knows anyone id be greatfull only want enough money to pay for what they have eaten lol
