View Full Version : Sheffield's Best Kebab House Megathread
Which is the best kebab house in Sheffield.
I think the best is Kebabish on London Rd, opposite Bed.
They come in freshly baked Naan bread, loads of meat, pickled chillis the works, and very reasonably priced. Had one recently it was so big, I had to save some for breakfast.

I'd rather go to Chinos that Kebabish.
Tony Ruscoe 17-03-2003, 13:45 elif's on ecclesall road is by far the best kebab house i've ever been to!
it's so nice that i've even had kebabs from there without being drunk!
I prefere Southern Fried Chicken to kebabs, and the best is Chick-King on London Road.

I am not sure on Southern Fried Chicken. I think they tend to serve up some slop. Have you ever had anything from one of these establishments while sober? I have and it was not a very nice experience. I think most of these fast food places would be out of business if it wasn't for beer etc.
Moon Maiden 17-03-2003, 14:41 I love Kingdom Grill on Langsett Road, Hillsborough.
I have never really been a fan of kebabs though the rest of the tribe enjoy it. However I do love a good chicken shish with chips and mayo.
Their pizzas are out of this world, the service and price are excellent and they are nice peeps too :D.

You obviously didn't see the Food Police recently, the chicken there has probably been supplied by Mick the Chick

Mind you never know where the meat at any of these takeaways is from.
Might try a fish kebab next time.
Murdochs on Division Street. No contest.

Michael_W 19-03-2003, 00:16 Try Chubbys on Cambridge Street if your in town, but go easy on the chilli sauce !
:o Most of the burners that cook kebabs are made in Tinsley.
Dr Feelgood 06-05-2003, 09:23 Tried Elif's on Eccleshall Rd . Would definitely give it the thumbs up!
But anyone wanting to avoid a terrible takeaway pizza don't go to Yankees futher down the road.
:D
Id give a shout to Elif's, its the civilised kebab house...if there is one :D
Predictable I know - but Broomhill Friery does v. good kebabs. Although I have to admit that it's been a while since I had one.
belperite 06-05-2003, 21:49 I have to agree with Kebabish, it is gorgeous.
My take on Kebab houses:
Kebabish, London road - good for really spicy, hot kebabs. Mint/chilli sauce is brilliant.
Aslans, West St. - Good kebabs with nice garlic yoghurt.
Murdochs - Real lamb with mint sauce - mmm..
SFC, the Wicker - just different! But nice.

elif kebab's on ecclesall road is by far the best kebab shop ive ever been to. their donna's are second to none

Wow, Chubby's is still there?
That was me favourite kebab place after a night out on't town. Last time I were there was 1988-ish. It's been so long I can't remember the exact date let alone the year.
"me flippin memory's fadin wi' age"
It has to be Elif on Eccy Road - they're delicious

All the kebab shops in sheffield are on edge at the moment, as the Kebabish Original (the actual original francise chain) is opening on the Wicker, and as I have said in a previous post, their food is A1 having tried it at 2 other locations I would be suprised if it is different at this new one to be opened later this Sept.

sorry kids, no such ting as a good kebab in my world
Pauls-Stuff 06-12-2003, 23:14 Kebabish rules! Meal 1 everytime :P

Murdocks on Division Street is the best by far. Proper meat, not the Brains, B#@ls and Hoof stuff!!

Ta for tip Moon Maiden....live 2 mins away from Kingdom Grill...always wondered if it was any good..gonna nip in this week and get some scran :)
Dr Feelgood 20-12-2003, 23:24 Well ladies and gents, tried Kebabish Original in the Wicker.
First impressions very good. Would recommend you give it a try.
ones recently opened in fizalan square called the S1 bar.....plenty of room to eat in or a nice row of black cabs outside to take you home.......and the kebabs are gorgeous........
tinajones 31-05-2004, 23:08 I went past Sheffield Kebab House (formerly Istanbuls - its inbetween the Grovsner Hotel and the Casbah) last night and it looked like it had been completely trashed.
Does anyone know the story? I know that area is gonna be redeveloped soon but that looked like violent vandalism.
I really wanted a pizza too and ended up getting a dodgy burger from a porta-van. It really made me appriecate my regular haunt and realise how continually nice the staff in there are.
sammyBoy 01-06-2004, 08:42 I went past about ten minutes before you and there was about five 'white shirt boys' arguing with each other outside the Grosvenor and a trafic cone had been thrown through the kebab shop window. I am only assuming the two are connected as I didn't see it happen, but the staff fro the kebab shop were out on the street looking warrilly at the lads
dragonsoup 01-06-2004, 19:03 Not wanting to sound thick even if I am! Whats a white shirt boy?
noseyrosie 01-06-2004, 21:04 Haha, Just a guess, but do the white shirts happen to be nearly always Lacoste, and have the collars turned up?
qazitory 01-06-2004, 21:07 like a chav?????
Thats the best kebab house in this city, if not the country.
We once flew back from Turkey and went straight there for our tea, as the kebabs in Turkey had been rubbish.
The lads behind the counter are great as well, always remember you and they always make a bit of a fuss of my youngest lad who thinks its ace.
Ive been training him since a tender age to enjoy the heavenly donnas from there.
Hope they are all ok down there and back open soon
Tony Ruscoe 02-06-2004, 12:15 Sounds nasty! I was in there on Friday night for a quiet kebab on my way home. Glad there was no trouble then!

Erm, second best actually - Elif's on Ecclesall Road is better (just!) :P
Elifs Rules  they do the best kebabs by a mile!
Hey does anybody know whats happend to Chubbies, the kebab place next to John Lewis.
That place did amazing kebabs and seems to be closed whenever i'm down town.
If chubbies closes, i just dont know what to do with myself anymore. :(
go to Murdoch's on division street. proper lamb kebabs, not elephant legs. yum!
tashmafa 21-06-2004, 00:53 i only ever went for the toilet, make love not bacon! whoo, ahem.
mr craig 21-06-2004, 10:38 It was open when i went passed on saturday night.
Anyway, Pepes & Murdock>Chubbies
well i would have said the pop in near spital hill,i used to have them deliverd there huge..but after calling in the shop one day to fetch one i saw the filth and i aint had one since..the other day my mate had a menu shoved through his door (not from the pop in) on the front of it it said " biggest kebab in sheffield guarntee'd" anyway my mate said it was massive, thing is he's lost the menu so he couldn't give the number to me,any idea's peeps..cheers:thumbsup:
ok then. Merge this with the "urrghhh how filthy is balti king" thread if you wish...but here is my biggest kebab story.
I was drunk and we decided to order from millenium (balti kings pizza/kebab shop)
Anyway, I ordered the special kebab which said "a bit of everything"
when it came this is what I got.
A naan bread with donner meat, chicken meat, sheeesh kebab, a sausage!?, salad, garlic, chilli, chips, spoonfulls of actually meat chilli con carne...and to end it all a big battered fish slapped on top.
I kid you not. I ate as much as I could then spent the night crouched over the loo shouting for Huey.
oh my god.
oh...and as a point...I'm from Newcastle and I think the kebabs in Sheffield are tiny compared to the ones there.
When I've had mates visiting they've just looked at the buttie sized object in shock!
far too much there i reckon but just out of interst how much was it?
I think the crazy thing was that it cost about £3
that was a couple of years back but still....dont try it is my advice!
my mate said when the guy came walking up the path with the kebab he thought their lass had orderd a new carpet:)
neeeeeeeeeek 20-08-2004, 14:08 Kebab house oposite the Broadfield pub on abbeydale road.. Large Chicken Kebab with everything. Hmmm.. best ever..
Chilli Chicken on Abbeydale Road do huge kebabs.
There's a place in Crookes that does HUGE ones, definately the biggest I've seen so far in Sheffield. I think it's on the corner of Springvale Road where the main road dips down and then comes back up again....I could be wrong though as I've always been crap at navigation. Just have a look around for a burger/kebab place on the corner by a load of shops in that area.
The main place I like to go is The Yummy Hut at Hunters Bar roundabout on Ecclesall Rd. It's very well named as both pizzas and kebabs are lush! :D
Jacks place at nethershire shops in shiregreen. They do a mixed kebab for about £4 and its huge, half for supper and half for breakfast or lunch the next day! Spot on!
Tony
jenhoppy 20-08-2004, 18:55 Mmmm stop it all this talk of food is making me hungry!
You MUST try the kebab shop on duke street they do indian food, pizza and kebabs, and outhern fried chicken.I can strongly recommend their mixed kebab!Beautiful!loads of doner meat and chicken with salad.Have to cut in half and share or save it for next day....huge!Shop very clean too!...Oh and just for the record i dont work there or know anyone who does!....just a VERY satisfied customer!

I had one from there about three years ago. Six hours later I was puking so hard that I spent a week in the northern General. I thought I was a gonna!! I can't say for sure that the events were linked but I would never (I stress never) have one of their greasey ass hunk of rotting dog flesh!!
My advice would be, big is not necessarily better. We are not Americans. Why do we need to eat so much that we become fat or our belly hurts. You may think I'm being wussy but I'd go for quality not quantity.
That place up from the forum on division st do rather delicious kebabs - all lamb and no other mammal. I forget its name.
I was at uni in Hull and kebabs are so much cheaper and better. I'm very disaapointed with the general quality and quantity of what you get in Sheff.
Ned Ludd 20-08-2004, 21:03 Size isn't everything!
That shop at the corner of Eccy Road and Neill Road does very good 'babs

I doubt it.The shop i mentioned has been open less than a year. You must be mistaken. Its at the side of the barracuda fish and chip shop and was empty for about 2 years and before that was a chemist.
jenhoppy 20-08-2004, 22:01 oops sorry mini didnt see the quote!long day....yawn.sorry mate
mr craig 20-08-2004, 23:14 Aslans on West St do the Aslans Special,It about £6 but its pretty big ass kebab. Its very nice too.:)

Aslans on West Street - the best by a mile. I don't eat kebabs coz they taste like poo IMO, but everything else: pizzas, burgers etc is absolutely lush!!
Try it, you know you want to!
pearl rocker 13-09-2004, 20:10 elif kebab's on ecclesall road is the don man.....all the other places thats kebabs look like they could be selling rats and stuff
Yummies on Middlewood Road, brilliant kebabs and the best pizas by far
MumphitMan 14-09-2004, 22:22 Can't think of the name but theres a great kebab place on South Rd in Walkley. I think its Supreme grill or something like that. The owner makes his own Donner and its really nice and meaty made from 100% lamb not beef/lamb mix like so many are. Well worth a visit, I do and its miles away from me.
that one on south road is by far the worst tastless dire kebab I have ever tasted!
ELIF, ECCLESALL ROAD... BY A LONG SHOT!!! AND OVER THE YEARS IVE TRAWLED AROUND MOST OF THEM...
GREAT KEBABS ALL ROUND. AND THE ONLY PLACE THAT DOES A DECENT VEGE BAB ASWELL.
TRY HALF CHICKEN HALF VEGE... THERE'LL BE NO GOING BACK!
Don't do kebebs often but ti think the chicken shish from Kebeb World at Broomhill is lovely. Even before goint out for the night, and they deliver.
Rossmeister 21-09-2004, 13:02 Elif's is superb. My friend used to starve all week until her 'weigh-in' (fat club) before going to Elifs for a kebab to celebrate losing weight.
southern fried chicken on duke street does excellent kebabs:)
Breakbear 23-09-2005, 10:20 Been really impressed by Donnerlicious on Abbeydale Road, after previously being put off by cheesy name/signage.
Decent quality lamb well prepared served on freshly cooked naan and absolutely massive.
Their small kebabs (£3 at most i think) are twice as big as most places standard size ones. Got one the other day and was full to bursting after half of it.
Haven't dared to think what the large ones are like.
BrainThrust 23-09-2005, 12:02 The one next to kebabish on the wicker does the best chicken kebab I've ever tasted.
Is it called 'Just Halal Kebabs?'
Seriously, if you're not in a donner mood, try it, just don't have much chilli sauce, it's really hot. Garlic mayo is tops though!
Wilf
iluvribena30 25-09-2005, 17:02 the best kebab house is DORAS in woodseats, the best doner kebab in the world :|
ste031082 13-10-2005, 18:37 can anyone help and tell me were the best place is to get a kebab after a night out in town. must be in the town area as cant walk to far when under the influence of alcohol!!!!
1Man&hisBMW 13-10-2005, 18:45 Don't they all taste the same when your p155ed?
In town? Sorry but all they want is your money... they tend not to care what it tastes like :suspect:
Suppose it has to be Chubbys near Coles
But can`t say I have eaten one in a long time
:suspect:
the_rudeboy 13-10-2005, 19:53 Is Murdochs (or is it Murdocks?) still open on Division Street?
Not sure about just a kebab but i cant say that Imrans on the wicker do the BEST wedges in Sheffield!! Perfect after a heavy night out, trust me :)
officegirl 13-10-2005, 21:08 not town but elif on eccie road do amazing kebabs they are actually made of meat rather than fake-ness and that goes for the donner too, u can taste garlic and herbs and stuff- i would say it is well worth the walk
oh and they deliver but i dont have the number sorry
Tartempion 13-10-2005, 21:23 mmmmmmmmmm... Elif kebabs.... *drooling*

Unbeatable
Murdoch's on on Div Street. Not the typical elephant leg, but proper spiced pieces of lamb. Lovely! The best I've tasted in this country, never mind just Sheffield.
absynthfairy 14-10-2005, 09:08 I enjoyed the lamb one i had a chubbies and i wasnt even drunk...
I think aslans is nice too - great garlic mint sauce! and reasonably priced...and friendly!!!
It has to be Murdochs on Division St.
'Proper' lamb cooked on a spit, served with a lovely mint sauce in a pitta.
Hubsta and I live 4 miles away and we drive in to get them.

Yeah, I'd recommend Murdocks, they also used to do a very good chicken kebab, grilled on skewers, with salad and lemmon dressing.
v. nice.
GabbleRatcht 14-10-2005, 17:31 Just Halal on Wicker. Shish donner mix is fab. Chubbys in town.
The best thing is they haven't changed the taste in twenty years. You can always bank on it. Providing you like it in the first place:D
Same with the Kashmir on Spittal Hill. Still as good as the first time I tasted their curry 20+ years ago. The chefs change but they have to cook to the same recipe.
Chubbys Cheese burgers have always been the best. Could kill one now......
I can't help but read the subject of this post as. .
"Still trying to find the best heap of ground up, mashed crap in the city center". .
Not being snobbish or owt, just cannot stand the ethics behind Kebabs and Black pudding. .

Dj_Shadowman 24-10-2005, 10:57 Usually go to Rasheeds on Manor Top but knowing it was late and they wouldnt be open, last night I went to "Just Halal" on the wicker.
Always have a mixed kebeb on nann bread which at Rasheeds is enormous so myself & the wife share one (and she still cant eat all of hers)
However, the same thing at Just Halal is the size of a normal kebeb.
When I pointed this out to the staff I was told "But you will notice the difference in quality"
And I did....the one from Rasheeds is much better !
So, looks like no more kebabs for me after a Sunday night session at the Tap & Barrell.
Will stick to Rasheeds from now on :D

Now read the above post and check when Shabba joined the forum.
Bet I met Shabba last night :D
He is right about the cleanliness though, cant fault it for that.
BrainThrust 24-10-2005, 14:41 I've never had a problem with Just Halal, I will always reccomend them from ym experiences there.
Like I said, I doubt you'll find a tastier chicken kebab in Sheffield. I don't eat the other stuff so can't comment.
As for Dj_Shadowman's comments about size. You're right they aren't massive but I find that if I eat a big kebab, I'm badly the day after, which isn't good with a hangover. I like the size, don;t mind the prices but I'd quite like a mild sauce option as the stuff there does kill me.

Dj_Shadowman 24-10-2005, 14:48 Dont get me wrong, I did enjoy the one from Just Halal, but the guys at Rasheeds know just how I like my kebabs.

BY THE WAY DONT LET MR DJ PUT U OF (I AINT GOT A CLUE WHAT HE IS ON ABOUT) JUST TRY IT YORSELF I DID A YEAR AGO AND I AM BACK THERE EVERY WEEK.

merlin_7799 25-10-2005, 10:32 No contest - without a doubt - Kebab World, Broomhill - you can even eat them sober!!!! - delicious!!
I've eaten Kebabs all over the world and I know a good kebab shop when I see one. All of you who voted for Elif's need your heads and tastebuds checking. I've rarely eaten such filth masquerading as kebab. There is only one kebab shop I've ever been consistently happy with in Sheffield and I've tried more than most - believe me.
Nether Edge Kebab House on Sheldon Road in Nether Edge (surprisingly) serves up fresh and delicious kebabs in generous portions on a light and supple naan. Having said that, I was there just the other night and was disappointed - the meat was overcooked and the naan floury, but out of approxiamately 50 kebabs, this is the first and only one to not hit the mark.
I've eaten a lot of kebabs in Sheffield but never found a shop where the meat, salad and sauce are mixed BEFORE going into the bread, ensuring an even distribution. Anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield that does this?
If you want a really good kebab go to Hamburg where they use fladenbrot to make pockets instead of wraps.
Kebab World in Broomhill is consistently good.
Lamb shish and kofte large mix kebabs are always really good.

sheff_minx 25-10-2005, 14:42 I'm another one who needs my tastebuds and head checking (apparently :loopy: ) I lurve Elif's kebabs - only ever had them sober and they're gorgeous. Even the donner tastes like meat!!
Why is so much emphasis placed on whether a kebab tastes good when you're sober? If the best accolade you can think of for a kebab is that it isn't so disgusting that it's only digestible when drunk, then your experience of kebabs must be pretty terrible.
A good kebab is a meal to be enjoyed at any time of day or night, drunk, sober whatever. Kebabs are a delicacy, which should be hot, succulent and spicy. If you're the kind of person who gets a kebab because you're ****** up then obviously you're going to get rubbish.
Sort yourselves out!! If your'e eating food when your'e drunk that you wouldn't eat when sober then you've got pretty rubbish taste in food or you can't handle your drink.

I HAVE ALSO EATEN KEBABS ALL OVER SHEFFIELD AND I THINK IT HAS TO BE JUST HALAL KEBABS ON THE WICKER, YOU CANT BEAT THERE KEBABS THE DONNERS ARE VERY TASTY.
id say imrans or abduls kebabish wen it cums to food its hot an delicious trust me pal but watever u do dont go to dixy's give u r8 bad stomach aches
FolicAcid 27-10-2005, 14:04 elif on eccy rd yum, watch out for nasty "lamb" subs on devonshire st.
bexbrown82 27-10-2005, 15:44 There's one on West Street that is yum. Really huge and tasty. Can't remeber the name though. It's on the same side as Walkabout but further up. Please someone help because it's annoying me.
popeyes on west street for chicken kebabs
Kebabish, London Road (town end), as a measure of just how good they are I do a 18 miles round trip for the mixed kebab in fresh nan bread - with mint sause. (I live just outside peak district, S6)
Superb, also the roast potatoes are somthing special too, mint sauce again!
JD

even though i drive through attercliffe i never even knew it was there, apparently its been open 3 years, ive just been in and it was very impressive, its more of a sit down job than a takeaway and the food is very nice...its just up the side of banners:)
SpeedwayDan 12-11-2005, 14:26 yeah, i used to work not far away, we heard about it when someone brought us some food from there one day for free.
excellent food, all freshly prepared, if your in a rush, its best to ring your order through, as they're usually pretty busy, and with having to freshly prepare your food, it can take a while.
but well worth the wait:thumbsup: i recommend the special mixed grilled keebab
pete_jim 12-11-2005, 15:11 Pleased to endorse the others comments, really tasty grub.
Another recommendation for Kebabish Original. Best Chicken Doner I ever had. Really tasty meat, nice sauce, the essential "kebab salad", massive naan and a huge pickled chilli for £3.50.

what you got against halal????
Just the thought of hanging an animal upside down to bleed to death in the name of religion doesn't sit well with me. I love eating meat but I think I'd have a hard time knowingly eating an animal that had died that way.
It could also be my aversion to religion that does it too. ;) And that's not just Islam before you play the race card. I refuse to follow any form of religion. Sorry!
Anyway, back to topic. If you'd like to follow this up shabba pls send me a pm. I don't want to start a religious row. ;)
Crayfish 22-11-2005, 23:01 Went to a good Kurdish one in pitsmoor. Can't remember its name but the starters and infinite naan breads are amazing. Also very cheap. Restaurant style though not a takeaway

officegirl 04-01-2006, 22:24 i just was woundering if anyone else has been to the new kebab restaurant on london road? and is it contected to a similar place next door but one?
I was in on new years eve the food was great - lots of lovely lamb and chichen dishes - not much for the veggie but lots of starters so you could do a kind of mezze.
reasonably priced starters £2-£4, mains £6-£11 only 2 puds but hay ho
the booze was cheap wine only £8, beer was £2
its on the corner where the turkish resaurant was oposite the crown pub.
i have to say it was good value for money there was a group of about 10 of us just about everyone had a starter but we all had mains and there was lots of booze and the bill only came to £147 which i thought was a bargin
i thought i'd mention it as i couldn't find any info on the forum - i know it sound like an ad but really im just a happy customer

Fantomas 05-01-2006, 00:13 I was there just the other day - think it's called Marmaris. Had the mixed kebab to try a bit of everything and it was spot on. The kofta in particular was great.
The wine list is very limited (one white and one red!) but it was very quaffable - myself and Mrs Fantomas got through a bottle each anyway!
Overall was very impressed and will certainly be going back.
you guys have never been to elif's then have you?
just halal kebabs on the wicker, best shish and doner kebabs in sheffield
neeeeeeeeeek 18-01-2006, 12:34 It's crap that shop, sorry but it is! They use those pitta's you get in bags of 6 from the supermarket for about 60p, not impressed.

MJ, I have been saying that all along.
I went in there one night and I got talking to the 2 guys behind the counter about the forum - less than 24 hours later Shabba joins and starts banging on about the place.
Personally I don't think you can beat ' Best Kebabs ' on Ecclesall Road ( Banner Cross ) 10/10
Fact 1: There are more "best kebab" threads on this forum than members...use the search facility and add to the many that already exist. Sounds suspiciously like 'Shabba' is an interested party here...could this be a shameless plug.
Fact 2: Sheffieldism is right about Elif. Very questionable music taste though...

This is too blatant now! isnt it?
This makes me think that the food cant be that good because the owner/worker has to keep shamelessly plugging it!
in my opinion a good business runs on word of mouth and recommendations by genuine customers and not by shameless plugs by the owner. come on mate give it a rest now! business cant be that bad can it?
what you goin on about im a taxi driver?
i just go there to eat, im just letting peeps know of a good place to eat..

You'll get fat (or fatter) eating kebab for your dinner every day matey. ;) Keep an eye on the blood pressure and cholesterol ratings too. :D
My mate snatch makes a mean doner.
johnbradley 25-01-2006, 18:12 theres no doubt in my mind!!!
1. nether edge kebab house (by pops)
the chicken tikka, in naan, with salad, mayonnaise and chilli sauce.
nothing else touches em, and ive had five years of sheffield kebab sampling!
2. Alifs (ecclesall road)
classic donner in naan, salad, mint sauce, chilli
its the bread they use, and the nice little side portion of salad so you can construct it yourself...very tasty...but not king
3. kebabish (london road)
special mention, pretty fine establishment, the place next door is good too but only when they have their special cream-coloured chicken donner..not to be missed
donnerlicious is good too, clean and cheap! and chilli chicken have got new owners, so might improve a bit!!
anyway, thats what i reckon...if you can point me towards a finer place than the NE KH im there on the weekend;)
SWFC_GIRL 25-01-2006, 18:54 best kebabs, eccy road
had a really good one from this place on division street last night, dunno what it was called cos i was really hammered but it was on the left as you walk up (opposite side to rocky horror shop) and i think it was yellow on the outside and was quite big inside. Had mixed kebab and chicken was really nice and the donna meat wasnt that usual greasy stuff either. Unfortunately wont help my diet any tho!

livestrong 25-01-2006, 22:15 Kebabish on the wicker...
stumathers 25-01-2006, 23:15 Murdocks on division street are the best. They use shredded lamb, tastes like the lamb you have for sunday lunch! Mmmmm
Yo lil Bradders - there's about a squillion kebab threads now dude. Elif's always has to be number one, and I agree with the NEKH - although their chilli sauce is somewhat tart. Recommend always going for a roti over a naan there btw - avoids the too-much-bread syndrome.
But I would recommend Kebab World in Broomhill. I'd say they have the best kebabs in Shef after Elif.
Word.
p.s. Regarding Chilli Chicken, did the previous management die in some kind of gang-related massacre (argument over 'Bassline' perhaps). They once took 45 minutes to make me a pizza, which was burnt. Probably overseeing a shipment of knocked-off fags or summat. Bizarre.

I'd have to disagree with the being drunk part...so would Bradders if pressed: I have kebabs when sober, for my tea. Let me tell you now, I once dabbled in pescatarianism for about 6 weeks, but the temptation of an Elif donner bought me back. I usually don't want food when I'm drunk. Just more crunkjuice/party enhancers.
johnbradley 27-01-2006, 14:22 yeah man, i enjoy kebabs drunk or not, although a fair proportion have been chomped after a few bevvies!

Which one? Kebabish? (not, as I understand it, affiliated with the superior one on the wicker)
[edit: wonky grammar]
- It's narsty IMO. Tastes like it was some kind of feral quadrapedal turd. Worst kebab ever has to be the place opposite the Broadfield though. I think it's got a really imaginative name, like "Pizza and Kebab house". I wouldn't eat there if you paid me.
Anything less than a fiver.
So I could go to to Elif's.
Bonza.
[edit] p.s. I'm up for an excursion wickerside John me ol'. Tuesday?
Dear_Ladies 30-01-2006, 16:40 Pizza and Kebab House does a surprisingly good biryani, oddly enough.
johnbradley 01-02-2006, 08:51 actually, that place opp. broady does a decent jalfrazi too, although the dirty donna i got there a few days ago had a high number of suspicious crunchy bits in the meat...mmm
not in my top list anyhow!
yo stef, lets do it, get a bit dressed up an that, see if there are any nice kebab-munching birds down there
*now where's that tikka-flavour aftershave...works a charm*
Kebab munching birds? Well, I always said that the only thing more beautiful than a woman, is 2 of em. ;)
Tuesday was last night though. How about Thursday?
johnbradley 01-02-2006, 17:43 well, im meeting nick round yours i think, but maybe could squeeze a trip to Wicker Heights before going down...would involve consumption on the bus tho;)
and if we hook up with a couple of female kebab-munchers it'd definately improve the flavour
maybe get a little extra sauce...!
This is getting to be more of a private chat than a public forum. Then again, Lowlife said that there's only Cracknell, me, you, him, James7x7 and "some loser goin on about bassline house" on here.
Very accurate methinks.
Saw microwave donner 2pacs in Tescos for 0.89 squid. Was briefly tempted. BTW, is/was there (ever) a kebab shop in Doncaster called Donny Kebabs? If not, then there's a gaping great hole in market. I suggest we source some capital and get it done. We could probably feed those troglodytes rat meat to save on cost.
[edit] giz a ring then
top place, top food, been everywere for donner kebabs but cant touch this place.
merlin_7799 10-02-2006, 14:55 Kebab World, Broomhill - fantastic even when sober ;)
neeeeeeeeeek 10-02-2006, 15:00 Come on Shabba, stick an add in the Star or soemthing if you want to promote your Kebab shop. Or at least make them nice!
Are you still using those terrible morrisons style pitta's that come in packs of six or have you started making real breads like real Kebab shops do??
Get a large chicken Kebab from the place oposite the Broadfield, when yours are as nice as that I might buy another one.
wot u on bout neeeeeeeeeeek u jeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkk.
im a taxi driver go in there 3 times a week and i think there kebabs are the best in sheffield. and i have been all over.
people who have been there know its good, its a original kebab house which has been in business for a long time, cus i have been goin there for atleast 10 years.
* cue an ex-student type going on about Elif's *
[mbatey]
neeeeeeeeeek 10-02-2006, 15:23 So is it the shop one or 2 doors down from kebabish? and just before Dixichicken?
If it is then it's crap and you started a thread about it a couple of weeks ago. If not then please disregard all my previous coments!
shows how much you know about gud food, i like it and alot of other taxi drivers go there, so i think that tells you something!!!!:loopy: :loopy:
Well, I have something to say on this matter (again) before it is merged into another thread (again).
Following on from your earlier recommendation, I decided to sample the delights of your favourite kebab house, which you frequent during the long hours of your job as a taxi driver - having nothing at all to do with the running of the place. I thought I'd better have a look through my favourite publication, Kebab Monthly. This is what roving reporter Gary Eskimo had to say:
I ordered a kebab. The salad was evidently made of asbestos, covered in pyridine. A limp, soggy nettle was draped over a half-pingpong ball. The meat itself consisted of the cancerous tumour of a rat, digested and regurgitated by a dog with rabies. The bread was quite clearly a few pieces of MDF held together with wool.
All in all, I'd say it was fair to middling - I'll award 6.7 donners
6.7 donners isn't that good though. It's an arbitrary scale. Elif got 2363.
That place opposite the Broady is utterly sh*te btw. That got -2.
merlin_7799 10-02-2006, 15:28 ...yes - they don't know where kebab world is!!
...yes - they don't know where kebab world is!!
I love kebab world. Haven't been there for yonks though...walked once up there from Sharrow after I moved away from Broomhill. Was worth it.
defstef firstly never heard of kebab monthly and i dont know what made you come up with that very nice comment, but you have got a imaginative mind. :loopy:
defstef firstly never heard of kebab monthly and i dont know what made you come up with that very nice comment, but you have got a imaginative mind. :loopy:
Well, I merely passed on the information as I read it. Kebab Monthly can usually be found it specialist magazine shops, alongside such titles as Carp Whisperer, The Practical Beel Weaver, and White Dwarf
try halal kebabs wicker, if you like shish kebabs.

neeeeeeeeeek 10-02-2006, 16:11 So am I on about the correct one?? you seem to have forgotten to answer.
The one in between Kebabish and Dixichicken?? If it is that one then it's rubbish. So answer my questions, are you still using those awful pitta's that you but in packs of six from the supermarket or are they made fresh??
Everyone (oh simply everyone) knows about Elif's own naan, or Kebab World's, or Donnerlicious', but I'd recommend Nether Edge Kebab House's kebab on a roti. Now there's a taste sensation mmmmmmmmmm.
lovabulrogue 14-02-2006, 17:16 Can't think of the name but theres a great kebab place on South Rd in Walkley. I think its Supreme grill or something like that. The owner makes his own Donner and its really nice and meaty made from 100% lamb not beef/lamb mix like so many are. Well worth a visit, I do and its miles away from me.
Yes it was caled Supreme Grill, I know that the original owners (friends of mine) had the shop from approx 1985 until about 12 months ago. I used to work there the odd night when I left school, and I can tell you the Kebabs are 100% hand made from lamb breast. Mohammed and Hamid owned the shop like I said and made most things from scratch. Mohammed's home made chili sauce was amazing, couldn't handle a lot of it though !!!
One of them now has a shop selling computers (Langsett Computers, Langsett Rd) and the other one has the shop next door selling catering equipment. They sold the business on South Rd, due to too many years of unsociable ours. I would not agree that the Kebabs are the worst ever (like someone commented) they were spot on in my book, all made by hand in the back, and not bought from a frozen foods supplier, like most of them do.
johnbradley 14-02-2006, 22:08 just had a lamb/chicken tikka 'bab from the nether edge kebab house, and once again can confirm that this place rocks my spicey meat world!
superb!
hey stef, these magazines are everywhere these days!!
"The Daily Naan" had this to say:
"from the squelchy first succulent bite, to the satisfying mess of chilli and food dye around my beard, this was one monster i enjoyed snogging."

I never implied that there may or may not exist a hypothetical place that you may or may not own which is actually a kebab shop masquerading as some kind of tile emporium, I was merely being a facetious c*** by suggesting your choice was a bad one, even though I don't know what it is, again, beacuse I am a c***.
btw, if your handle is meant to promote your "tile" (kebab) business (called Eyre Tiles and Kebabs), then it's pretty hard to decipher to a layman. It looks a bit like "erectile", which would also be a good name for a fake kebab tiling business if your name was Erec (Nordic "Eric").
Thanks.

Please dont flatter yourself by including the word 'facetious' to describe yourself. This would imply a certain amount of intelligence on your part. Try to keep it simple. C*** will do. Also try to get out more and mix with the general public at large. This will help with your communication skills and will make you a better person for it.
I thank you;)
I think it's more likely that I've had too much exposure to the general public, to be honest. Do we actually yet know where your favourite kebab outlet is? Would you like to tell us?
And remember kids, limiting your protein intake to just doners ain't no good:

chicken bar, and theres also another one up on the street directly behind kingdom (i thinks its fairly near stardust) that does nice ones that are more like shedded lamb that actually tastes of lamb not them normal greasy slices of that processed stuff, cant remember what the place is called.

Oh come on, all anyone has to do is look at your previous posts - most of them are about this shop - do you own it or just work there ?

johnbradley 29-05-2006, 08:13 thats pretty good, but can it beat NE KH for taste? - i will find out tonight:)
Musicman1998 05-06-2006, 22:43 Why is so much emphasis placed on whether a kebab tastes good when you're sober? If the best accolade you can think of for a kebab is that it isn't so disgusting that it's only digestible when drunk, then your experience of kebabs must be pretty terrible.
A good kebab is a meal to be enjoyed at any time of day or night, drunk, sober whatever. Kebabs are a delicacy, which should be hot, succulent and spicy. If you're the kind of person who gets a kebab because you're ****** up then obviously you're going to get rubbish.
Sort yourselves out!! If your'e eating food when your'e drunk that you wouldn't eat when sober then you've got pretty rubbish taste in food or you can't handle your drink.
you have written what I am thinking, so it saves me typing it:hihi:
a good kebab is very enjoyable.
pete_jim 06-06-2006, 13:27 New arrival and very good is the Two Brothers opposite the Mangla at the top of Spital Hill. Went on Friday, deeeelishus.
johnbradley 01-07-2006, 13:06 so, i was sat at home last night with my mate dan, steadily building a tower of carlsberg cans, and got the takeaway pangs...
The Nether Edge Kebab House did it again! Chicken Tikka and vegetables pizza, with a large chicken tikka kebab between us.
It was a little hot for him but perfect for my tastes, and it rocked the spot!!
plus, ive not had any real 'stingers' today either, so happy days.
there can be only one...:)
For greed alone, probably Sheffields biggest kebab its gotta be the Big T Special £7.50 from KPC tandoori at Frechville.. Feeds 4 very hungry people... Or just one really fat chuff !! Well recomended .. :D
Woodseats Kebab House, my fave I go for the chicken and shish not donner, also good is Elif on Eccy Road.
Plus Kebabish on bottom of London Road
there is quite a difference between mediterranean kebabs and middle eastern ones, and if you find a good one of either you are gonna love it.
my all time fave is in london, eddie's fish bar round the back of kings X a true experience....
shaggy_x 05-02-2011, 20:35 To resurrect a very old thread ...
In my experience sheffield doesnt really have that many good 'kebab houses'. They tend to pale in comparison with some I've found in Bradford and Birmingham.
But anyway, out of what we do have :
Just Halal - last time i went was a couple of years ago. It was overpriced for what it is, but unless things have changed, they make and spice their own donner. Whenever I've gone in there its always been empty!!! Perhaps because its opposite Imrans and most people tend to go there, and also because the place is over priced.
Imran's on the Wicker - probably the most well known of the chicken and chips places in Sheffield. Quality good and they do dollop a lot of cr@p on for your money. Try the Special Number 1 and 2's. You'd have to be a real fatty to finish the bigger portions. I personally rarely go there now, but when I do , I prefer the KFC style chicken burger.
Kebabish London Rd - from what I can tell under new management (though could be wrong). Not tried the donner's or chicken donner, but the 'tikka kebab' (grilled chicken or lamb) is alright.
Kebabish Wicker: part of a UK franchise. Not very generous on portions compared to other places, but generally OK, especially the grilled whole chicken. Other Kebabish franchises especially the London and Birmingham ones are much better. Seems to be busy whenever I've been there.
I really want to try a genuine Turkish place, so I am tempted to try Elif's. Anyone know if it is Halal?
belperite 05-02-2011, 22:20 I've found Imran's to be consistently tasty every time I've been.
Kebabish London road is a bit of an institution for me - always ended up being my place of choice in my student days.
Kebabish Wicker, I've only been once but thought it a bit "meh".
Elif's is great, don't know if it's Halal tho.

I totally agree, but it could get an extra kick from a shami and sheek kebab in it.
Colmanspig 06-02-2011, 00:17 Shaz one on london rd. Kurdish place does its own bread. Very nice salad. Does falaffal.
Good chilli sauce.
Elifs are very good.
Kebbaish on the wick , have been a few times had the tikka kebba not that special.
shaggy_x 06-02-2011, 00:32 one which i almost forgot:
Zaika on Chippingham Place, behind Karachi Stores in Attercliffe. Little known because its in a rubbish location, and it thrives almost exclusively on the Karachi stores trade (both owned by the same person I think). Also it closes at 8pm which means its not for the lager louts :hihi:
If anyone manages to find this place, try :
- chicken pakoras - best I've ever tasted.
- seekh kebab roll.
- sheesh kebab roll
- grilled chicken burger.
They do really nice curries too.
IMHO this place and Mangla are the best of the Indian restaurants in Sheffield. You won't find any better.
no contest like you say kebabish on london road the best bar none fresh food always and always busy which is a good sign.
enforcer 07-02-2011, 01:51 Ive been to many and I'd say either Elif on Ecclesall Road or Poppin on Gower St.
The perfect kebab (for me anyway) has always been Elif, but as I dont live in that area anymore i'm finding it tough to find a decent ones, any suggestions?
Specification:
Has to be in a naan
Has to have a nice amout of chicken(shish??)
Has to have a nice amount of grilled veg(i'm talking, toms, peppers, mushrooms, onions.
Has to have a great salad (sour crout, cabbage (both red and white) toms, cuc etc.)
Preferably with chips
Any suggestions for one in the S6 area(foxhill side??)
Thanks
shaggy_x 07-06-2011, 17:25 I might try Elif's this weekend hopefully the students will be out of the way :)
iheartsheff 07-06-2011, 18:15 Elif's on Eccy Road is the one I go to drunk or sober.
They now also deliver to Crookes so it's always an added bonus when I'm feeling lazy.
Who does the best chilli sauce though!?
CorkerSWFC 07-06-2011, 20:17 Who does the best chilli sauce though!?
