Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first thread. Basically I'm researching a dissertation on the shop stewards' movement during the First World War and wondered if anyone could help.

The East End of Sheffield was a centre of industrial militancy and there was a large strike in November 1916 when a skilled fitter was conscripted into the army. One of the strike organisers, JT Murphy who worked at Vickers, later became a prominent member of the Communist Party and wrote his memoirs, but there seems to be very little written about the whole period.

Does anyone here have ancestors who were involved? Or can anyone point me in the direction of any books or source material that I might have missed?

Cheers,
Edd
