View Full Version : What's happened to Fox's music? milkycoffee 19-07-2005, 11:44 Wanted to get a new guitar, and heard Fox's had a sale on. EyeSpy 19-07-2005, 11:45 Gone back to old premises just off the Moor Tubthump 19-07-2005, 12:01 Originally posted by EyeSpy Gone back to old premises just off the Moor Why have they gone back there? Was it because the old place was a bit too big? Fox's have always struck me as being a very personable shop which might have got a bit lost in their Angel St showroom. Do they still have the same variety of stock (guitars/ keys/ sheet music bits)? Camp_Man 19-07-2005, 12:17 I think that had something to do with it, pride themselves on being able to give friendly professional advice, with the shop being too big, they were forever having to keep looking over their shoulders to see who was entering. Still have a wide range of instruments as before. Lightninboy 19-07-2005, 12:27 I heard that they've been bought out by a new company (still trading as Fox's obviously). Such a shame, the old shop was great. The staff were all very knowledgeable (in their own fields!!). The new shop is really tiny and the "rock'n'roll section is a bit of a joke. Hardly any stock but the same guys as before. Must be a huge kick in the 'nads to go from that to where they are now. milkycoffee 19-07-2005, 12:36 I liked that big shop you could look round without any hassle or being bugged by think they know it all staff, still don't know if they have got a sale on? need a new guitar at a real good price, want ESP. Tubthump 19-07-2005, 13:29 Originally posted by milkycoffee need a new guitar at a real good price, want ESP. I know the old shop used to specialise in ESP. In fact, I think they might have been the sole Northern distributor. Interested to hear that they have been taken over. Does that mean they are no longer the family business - "since 1870-ish" - anymore? Lightninboy 19-07-2005, 13:30 Not sure what guitars are in there now but dont think they deal with ESP anymore. My suggestion would be get an ESP from elsewher and then let the guys at Foxs do the setup on the guitar cos they've always been brilliant with my mates stuff. alchresearch 19-07-2005, 13:32 Has anyone been to that really big music store in Leeds, not far from the Yorkshire Post? Lightninboy 19-07-2005, 13:37 There's Sound Control 1 and 2 (which was Academy of Sound) and Music Ground which are the fairly big ones. Music Ground has the cool old stuff on the top floor, vintage guitars etc. Not sure of Leeds locations. MagicBert 19-07-2005, 18:50 Fox's got chucked out of the old big shop on Angel Street by the landlords wanting a lot more rent, and already having another tennant for the space - or something to that degree. Sounds like they got shafted pretty bad to me :( I Went and bought a Yamaha keyboard when they were closing, and had a good chat with the manager then about it. The Moor move is *supposed* to be temporary whilst they look for another big shop...dunno if that's still the case though cos it was back in March I talked to them. The actual company did go into Liquidation then get bought out by someone else. And I agree about the staff - very friendly people, and all know what they're on about :) angelgirluk 19-07-2005, 20:27 They turned it into a fabulous 99p shop :o Lightninboy 20-07-2005, 09:09 Yeah, just what Sheffield needs, ANOTHER 99p shop!! Must admit it will "blend" in well with the surrounding area. Maybe we ought to start calling it the "poor quarter" or "chav quarter"!! :D music_me 20-07-2005, 11:24 i like your suggestion lightninboy:clap: i've been to the new store at top of moor and they seem to be promoting themselves well, they've had a sale on everytime ive been in. i must admit the takeover seems a step in the right direction for them, theyve got more stock and at ok prices. Jonesy 10-10-2005, 14:12 Has it disappeared? If so as of when, and has it moved? HendryVIII 10-10-2005, 14:28 Originally posted by Jonesy Has it disappeared? If so as of when, and has it moved? Do you mean the one that used to be on Snig Hill. That move to Charter Square. Space 10-10-2005, 16:57 I know Fox's music moved to Meadowhall (near M&S/Abbey) but don't know if they are still there! m3tallica 26-12-2005, 18:19 fox's was terrible they were over priced ufair to the staff and if you order anything from them i doesnt arrive.
