Ok so i`ve been reading loads of threads & post`s & hearing how the sheffield council can & will lie to you just to get you off there back...

Well they told me the turn over rate for the last months is so fast people are moving/getting housed on the first four weeks of properties listed i took this with a pinch of salt due to hearing horror stories bout people been on priority for weeks/months before been rehoused....

But i`ve been on the Sheffield Property shop website & noticed that the results of properties let seem to happen 0-30days later after receiving a priority so i`m now puzzled !!!
how can people on PRIORITY be waiting months when most if not all priority's are let in the first 4weeks of the priority awarded???

Can anyone shed any light on this matter

surely they can`t/wont fudge the figures on the results otherwise people with a higher waiting time on priority would go crackers if they bid on a property & somebody with a lower waiting time on priority gets the property.
i no DEMO priority is seen as a higher priority in some areas etc but most if not all are judged on priority waiting time..
Many Thanks
Rebecca,

Can you specify any areas or the types of property?

The reason I ask is because, generally, the waiting times for flats are lower than they are for houses. So by that reckoning, if someone with priority is needing a 3 bed house and it's taking 3 or 4 months, then someone who is only eligible for flats, with priority, will be waiting less than this. Also the area and estate are a factor.

Hi leviathan13,

There all houses & the odd maisonette that are let in the first 4 weeks of the priority award on the results of properties let & the houses are spread through out sheffield some bad areas some nice
all i did was go on the sheffield property shop site then clicked results of properties let then ticked priority then just a priority date of the 01/05/2009 then it brings up the last 3 months of properties let on priority & the results show you

date the house was advertised / size / area / winning bidder priority registration date.

which always seems to be within 0-45 days of priority award mostly within 30days.

It depends on the type of priority too. As you've mentioned about demolition priority, but there are others. Homeless priority will probably move the quickest, due to having to pretty much accept any area.
I've had demolition priority, which took about 9 months, and mobility priority which took 13 months.

The points system really stinks, by the time everybody has taken priority housing, ordinary people can only have whats left, so even f youve been on the waiting list for 15 years its unlikely you will get a property in a decent area

Policy reflects government legislation. Local authorities have a legal duty to house people who are in certain situations, and because of the general lack of council housing 3/4 now go to priority cases. This means only one in four of each type on each estate available for people on the housing register who are not classed as priority.

There's no easy answer, its a subject that comes up in most discussions about council housing.

It still stinks, people should get the chance of lving where they want to when they have waited all thoses years, its so easy to be "a priority"

How exactly is it 'easy' to be a priority?

I must agree Priority is no easy thing as you only get a limited time to bid on properties by yourself then the council managers take over your bidding & bid on every property in sheffield every week & you have to take the 1st property no matter where.

Which is all good otherwise they`d be no need to be a PRIORITY case but its not easy or a nice experience as if you do not get housed in the trail self bid time (4weeks) you do not have know idea where you will end up in sheffield even if you have kids at local school etc once you have been matched to a property or when...

its a real stress BUT i also know how horrible it is bidding with points every week as i`ve done this for 18 months with 7 years waiting time not getting offered anything yes i know 7 years is nothing but its so frustrating...Knowing how you always know the person down the street that SEEMED to work the system like a puppet but some how never works that way for yourself etc

There are a lot of reasons for priority each of which we could say was a reason for wanting re-housing. I dont have a problem with genuine people being given priority but when you are going down the route in a legitimate way, it makes your blood boil to know that 3 out of 4 houses go to priority and when you know some of these "priority" cases it is so unfair. m I know, I have been down this route.

No points system any more, its either priority or waiting time. One in four properties of each type on each estate is advertised for people on waiting time. The problem (as has been pointed out sooooo often) is the general lack of council properties. Because councils have a legal duty to rehouse people in certain priority situations, it leaves very few homes available for those who just 'want' to rent from the council. Its also the case that the areas lots of people want are the ones that have the most sold properties (through RTB).

What system do people think would be fairest?

It is not easy to get priority, but i did know of people who abused the system many years ago.
The system is fairer then it use to be.
I am not sure all people know how to use the system to its full potential.

For future reference for people who are searching on this forum for results on priority letting times,

I got my priority awarded on the 22/07/2009 (overcrowding) made bids on following weeks & now just been offered a property from the first week22/07/2009 bids i made so 21 days in total...

Yes the area ain't great Gleadless still but its a property bit grotty/run down inside but still serves my priority need so great :) a lick of paint few carpets soon be home....
Thanks Everyone
