A TEENAGE girl was raped and left for dead after being throttled unconscious in Sheffield city centre.
The 18-year-old had missed her last bus home and was waiting for relatives to pick her up from the city's bus station when the attacker pounced.
He asked her for directions before dragging her by the neck into an alleyway with such force that she passed out.
The teenager - a ASheffield-born student - woke 40 minutes later on a grassy area near some steps leading from Flat Street to the Roxy nightclub on Arundel Gate, to find she was covered in bruises and had serious internal injuries.
She was only partially dressed and is said to have been left distraught by her attack.
She now faces an agonising wait for the results of medical tests to establish whether her attacker has left her with any diseases.
Detective Inspector Martyn Suter, of West Bar police station, labelled the rapist "a dangerous individual"."This would have been a horrendous attack for anybody, but particularly for a girl of this age. Who knows how long it will take her to come to terms with what she has been through," he said.
"The girl had lost consciousness when she was attacked and this man left her for dead. He has no regard at all for whether or not she survived.
"The young woman had missed her bus so she did the right thing which was to ring relatives for a lift and she was simply waiting for that when this man approached her, asked for directions and then dragged her away.
"It would have been a busy place at that time, so nobody would expect anything like that to happen."
"There will be serious psychological implications from this and of course she also faces the possibility that there could be medical implications to contend with too."
Detectives are now trawling through CCTV footage from the area taken at time of the attack and they are keen to trace the driver of a black cab which picked up a white bare-chested man from Commercial Street at around 1.15am.
They are also keen to hear from anyone in the area at the time who may have seen or heard something suspicious.
The attacker was white, aged in his twenties, of a chubby build and wearing a white t-shirt and dark trousers. He spoke with a local accent.
His victim, who is of Oriental appearance, has been released from hospital after receiving treatment for her injuries.
She has long hair and was wearing jeans and a dark top.

lets hope they catch this animal fast, the poor girl,it just goes to show it is not safe to be out on your own ,surely someone must have seen her being dragged away,the poor girl must be going through hell,has there been any publicity warning people of this incident i havnt seen any.

Hopefully CCTV will have picked something up that can be used in catching the animal that did this.

Surely there was some video footage that the Police could release of the individual. That area must be swarming with CCTV from both the Station and surrounding businesses.

I'm sure given the support already shown in this forum, someone will be able to recognise and inform on him if the footage is available

i think scc's cctv covers this area as well.

so sorry for this girl, who took all the correct action to stay safe and this happens to her.

Get the footage retrieved,and get it on the news tonight.

The good people of Sheffield will have him locked up in no time.

I think this forum should have a specific section for vital appeals like this. I nearly didn't read this thread because I thought it was about a missing dog or cat, also I was shocked at how many missing person appeals are on SYP website but I suspect far more people visit this forum everyday, I certainly do.

When a photo is released of this scum we should have it posted in place of that oooooh 7 shirts advert, or somewhere else prominent.

I read about this in The Star this evening and was ever so upset. The poor thing, she must be going through Hell. As some of you said, CCTV must have caught something and there is a very good chance he will be caught.

I cant in anyway imagine how this poor girl is feeling and guys like this bring the whole city down.

On another note and not to detract from the above, i was disappointed with the headlines as it states 'Bus Station'. As i work in public transport it is mis-leading as it makes it appear the Interchange is unsafe when i believe little happended on there. The Interchange is covered by CCTV and hopefully if the attacker did pass anywhere through there, it'll have him.

This is probably why they haven't released any CCTV pictures yet.

its heartbreaking what this girl will now have to deal with, someone has got to have seen something or know something, this may not be his first attack and probally not the last

Whats happened?? any developments? I haven't said anything on this thread because the idea just shocks me! I should have been in town around that time on my own and I am of similar age of that girl and it does scare me slighty but young vunerable girls shouldn't really be in town on there own. I just hope that that girl is brave enough to get through evrything, I know I wouldn't manage

A 16-year-old boy has been charged by police investigating an alleged sexual assault on a woman in Sheffield.

The 18-year-old was allegedly attacked on a grassed area next to Roxy's nightclub between Arundel Gate and Flat Street in the early hours of Sunday.

She had been waiting for a relative to pick her up after missing her last bus home, police said.

The boy has been charged with GBH and sexual assault. He will appear before Sheffield Youth Court on Friday.
